Your Transfer Tub Owner's Manual, Section by Section, Plus the Legacy Transfer Operations Sheet (Transfer26, 30, 32, 60, XXL)

This page is a section-by-section guide to the owner's manual for the Ella Transfer family: the Transfer26, Transfer30, Transfer32, Transfer60 and TransferXXL. It is drawn from the 28-page manual dated 6/15/23 that the site serves under two download names, plus the legacy Transfer operations sheet still hosted at the older /pdf/ address, which adds a few details the full manual leaves out. Printed lines since corrected are called out below. For a family overview, start with the Transfer tub family guide.

One Manual Under Two Download Names

The files at /walk-in-tub/manual/wheelchair-transfer.pdf and /walk-in-tub/manual/L-shaped-outward-swing-door.pdf are byte-for-byte the same document. Whichever product page you downloaded from, you have the full Transfer-family manual. Its cover table reads:

ModelSizeSeat size
Transfer XXL36"W x 55"L29"W
Transfer6030"W x 60"L22"W
Transfer3232"W x 52"L24"W
Transfer3030"W x 52"L22"W
Transfer2626"W x 52"L19"W

The largest model is the TransferXXL. If an older schematic in your paperwork prints "XXXL," that is a misprint of TransferXXL and the diagram applies to your tub. Other documents for each model are listed in manuals, spec sheets and drawings by model.

Section Map of the 28 Pages

  1. Unpacking. Photograph freight damage and have the driver record it; remove the panels and carry by the frame.
  2. Safety. Licensed plumber and electrician, dedicated GFCI circuit, no appliances within 3 feet, no hydro jets below the waterline, 100.4 F caution, caregiver and safety belt where needed.
  3. Hand shower barrel extension. Required before wall-mounting the hand shower.
  4. Pre-installation water test. Fill 3 inches above the highest jet, 30 minutes standing, 30 minutes running; see the pre-installation water test.
  5. Drains. Ella 2" T-Type dual port floor drain, four ports and two caps, Y fitting preferred.
  6. Leveling, service access, door seal. Equal weight on every leg, no insulation around the equipment, keep the door open when not in use.
  7. Deck mount grab bar. Metal washer, rubber washer, bolt up through the shell, rubber washer, escutcheon, tighten with the supplied Allen wrench. The large metal washer under the shell is mandatory.
  8. Reversible extension kit. Listed for Transfer-26 (52" L x 26" W), Transfer-30 (52" L x 30" W), Transfer-32 (52" L x 32" W) and Transfer-XXL (55" L x 36" W); none is listed for the Transfer60.
  9. Wall finishing, operations, cleaning, warranty, activation form. Below.

Tools and Parts You Need

  • Extension kit: L-shape stainless brackets (2), 1" x 1/8" bolts (7), 1" x 1/4" bolts (2), 1/2" nuts (2), 3/8" nuts (7), medium washers (4), small washers (14).

Operations: L-Shape Door, Drain Handles, Faucets, Controls

The manual's diagram is captioned "L-Shape Outward-Swing Door Walk-In Bathtub with Air + Hydro Massage Option" and labels the jets, dial, LED light, two 2" drain openers, grab bars and pull-out hand mixer. Enter, remain standing, close the door, then sit. Never open the door until the tub is completely drained. Handle and closing detail is in operating the L-shape Transfer door, and if the door ever stops latching cleanly, see Transfer door pins and striker plate.

Drain handles turn clockwise to open and counter-clockwise to close; do not fill above the center of the drain handle. Both faucets are documented: the 2-piece fast-fill faucet with its lever (left hot, right cold) and diverter button under the spout, and the 5-piece faucet with red and blue handles and a middle diverter lever turned toward "OFF" for the pull-out hand shower. Each hand shower dial has 5 flow settings.

The Legacy Transfer Operations Sheet and What It Adds

The older sheet at /pdf/Transfer_Walk_In_Tub_Operations_Instructions.pdf is operations-only, and a few of its lines are worth keeping:

  • "The L-Shape outward-swing door handle is located on the FRONT of the door," with an added deck, wall-mounted grab bar and space to pull up a wheelchair.
  • Drain opener handles come with an extension handle; the pictured position is closed, and facing up means open.
  • The door handle turns clockwise to close.
  • "Wait until the jets are entirely under water before starting the Hydro/Air Massage and/or microbubble therapy system."
  • Turning the hydro intensity dial adds or decreases the air supply drawn into the water stream. Seat jets are fixed hydro jets; floor jets are directional.
  • Its auto-purge sentence says the purge starts after the air pump is turned off, which matches the current published figure.

Unlabeled Push Controls on Some Units

The legacy sheet notes: "Some models may come without symbols on their push controls." If your buttons are blank, they do the same jobs as the labeled version: hydro massage on and off, air massage on and off, Infusion Microbubble on and off, with the hydro intensity dial alongside. Press one button at a time with the jets under water and watch which system responds. The air button cycles three speeds and its fourth press always turns it off. More help in touchpad and push control troubleshooting.

Printed Lines That Have Since Been Corrected

  1. Auto Purge timing. The 2023 manual prints "20 minutes after the pump has been turned on." The published figure is that about 20 minutes after you turn the air massage pump off, the Auto Purge starts automatically and runs for 120 seconds to blow leftover water out of the air lines. It cannot be interrupted and you do not need to leave the tub. The legacy sheet already has this right.
  2. Air speed order. The 2023 manual prints low, medium, high. The published order is once for high, twice for medium, three times for low, and a fourth press to turn off; the legacy sheet agrees, listing the cycle as fast, medium, low.
  3. Model name. Write TransferXXL. There is no XXXL model.
  4. Equipment warranty. The warranty pages print a five-year term on supporting equipment. The current warranty is Lifetime Limited on all supporting equipment as well as the shell, frame, door, seal and finish.

Cleaning and Warranty Pages

Flush before first use and monthly: 2 cups white vinegar with 2 cups water, fill to one inch above the highest jets, run 10 minutes, drain. The warranty pages give the thermostatic control valve a 1-year limited term and end with the two-page Warranty Activation Form. Complete and sign both, include a copy of your receipt and the electrician's license and insurance information, and submit it online at ellasbubbles.com/warranty-activation/ or by mail; you can complete it now if it was missed at installation.

Common Questions

Where is the handle on a Transfer door?
On the front of the L-shape outward-swing door, which leaves room to pull a wheelchair alongside. Close the door, turn the handle clockwise to secure it, and never open it until the tub is completely drained.
Which way should the drain extension handles point when the drain is open?
Facing up. The legacy sheet pictures the handles in the closed position and notes that facing up means open. Turn clockwise to open and counter-clockwise to close.
My push controls have no symbols on them, so which button is which?
Some units ship with unlabeled push controls. They do the same jobs as labeled ones: hydro, air and microbubble on and off, plus the hydro intensity dial. Press one at a time with the jets under water to identify each; the air button cycles high, medium, low, then off on the fourth press.
Is my tub called the Transfer XXXL?
No. The model is the TransferXXL. An "XXXL" printed on an older schematic is a misprint of TransferXXL, and the diagram itself applies to your tub.
When does the Auto Purge run on a Transfer tub?
About 20 minutes after you turn the air massage pump off, for 120 seconds. It cannot be stopped and it is normal even if it starts while you are still in the tub. The 2023 manual's "after the pump is turned on" line is outdated.
Is the five-year equipment warranty printed in the manual still correct?
No. The current warranty is Lifetime Limited on the shell, frame, door, seal and finish and on all supporting equipment, with the thermostatic control valve keeping its own 1-year limited term.
