The Ella Transfer60 is a wheelchair accessible walk-in bathtub built to fill a standard 60 inch bathtub opening. Its nominal size is 30 inches wide by 60 inches long, its actual size on the current spec sheet is 29.5 by 60 by 40 inches, and it carries a 22 inch wide seat behind an oversized L-shaped outward-swing door that leaves no sidewall beside the seat, so a bather can slide straight across from a wheelchair. It is sold as a plain soaking tub and in six therapy packages, and Which Ella wheelchair transfer walk-in tubs are available and how do they differ? places it beside the other four Transfer models.
Dimensions, Capacity and Weight
These figures come from the current Transfer60 spec sheet. The 30 by 60 inch size is the nominal size used in brochures and on the website, so frame the alcove and plan the path into the house from the actual and shipping figures rather than the nominal ones.
- Actual size: 29.5 inches wide by 60 inches long by 40 inches tall. The dimension drawing calls out the length as 59 inches and the width as 29 1/2 inches.
- Interior length: 50 3/4 inches, the longest footwell in the Transfer family.
- Seat: 22 inches wide and 18 1/2 inches long, with 17 inches from the seat to the footwell floor and 17 5/8 inches from the top of the seat to the top of the overflow.
- Water capacity: 90 gallons unoccupied and 55 to 75 gallons occupied, since the bather displaces part of the fill.
- Weight: 220 pounds net and 300 pounds shipping.
- Shipping crate: 34 by 62 by 50 inches. Measure doorways and hallways against the crate, not the tub.
- Door swing: the drawing shows the door opening 172 degrees, so it swings nearly all the way back.
Against the three 52 inch Transfer models, the Transfer60 trades a longer footprint for a longer seat and more leg room. The Transfer30 shares its 22 inch seat width but has a 44 inch interior and a 15 1/2 inch seat length, so the Transfer60 adds 6 3/4 inches of interior length and 3 inches of seat length in exchange for the extra 8 inches of alcove. Which Ella Wheelchair Transfer walk-in tub sizes are available: 26x52, 30x52 or 32x52? lays out the shorter models, which ship with an 8 inch extension panel to finish a 60 inch alcove; the Transfer60 fills that opening on its own and lists one reversible end panel instead.
The L-Shaped Door and What Comes Standard
The door is the reason the Transfer family exists. Its lower door line lets a bather transfer onto the seat from a wheelchair or walker while seated, rather than stepping through a taller opening. On the Transfer60 the door is a plastic composite frame with tempered glass, secured by a two-latch gear and shaft mechanism that gives a tight, leak-proof seal. The video on this page shows the L-shaped door family: the extra wide door that fits over the toilet, the two-latch lock, the dual drains and the optional foot massage, heated seat, four-fold glass screen and shower column.
In its soaking configuration the Transfer60 includes:
- An acrylic shell in gloss white, reinforced with fiberglass gelcoat.
- A stainless steel frame with adjustable leveling legs.
- The outward-swing door with the two-latch gear and shaft mechanism.
- A removable front apron with two access panels, and one reversible end panel.
- A deck and wall-mounted grab bar in stainless steel with a chrome finish.
- Two 2 inch four-port PVC drains with two end caps, two overflows and two stainless steel operated drain openers with extended handles in chrome.
- The 5-piece faucet, rated up to 18 gallons per minute at 60 PSI, with two 5 foot 3/4 inch supply lines and a pull-out chrome hand shower on a 5 foot retractable stainless braided hose.
Two options are listed on the spec sheet: a heated seat and backrest, and a digital controller. The four-fold glass screen and the walk-in tub shower column with hand shower and rain shower head shown in the video are accessories you add when you order.
Therapy Packages: What Each One Adds
The Transfer60 is one of the Transfer models offered with triple packages. Every package below is listed on the current spec sheet, and the LED chromatherapy light, rated 0.5A with an on and off push control, is included with dual or triple packages.
| Package | Systems included | LED chromatherapy light |
|---|---|---|
| Soaking | No jets or pumps | Not included |
| Hydro Massage | Hydro massage with in-line water heater | Not included |
| Hydro Massage + Microbubble | Hydro massage and microbubble therapy | Included |
| Hydro + Hydro Independent Foot Massage | Hydro massage plus a second pump and dial for the foot jets | Included |
| Air + Hydro | Three-speed air massage and hydro massage | Included |
| Air + Hydro + Hydro Independent Foot Massage | Air massage, hydro massage and the independent foot pump | Included |
| Air + Hydro + Microbubble | Air massage, hydro massage and microbubble therapy | Included |
What the packages mean for jet counts is the question most buyers ask, and there is no single answer for the model. The jet count is set by the package. The hydro-only system has 22 hydro jets, 16 at the seat and 6 at the feet, driven by a 7A pump with an intensity dial, ozone sterilization at 0.04A, an on and off push control and a 6A, 650W in-line water heater. When air massage is added, the hydro side becomes 11 hydro jets, 5 back jets and 6 foot jets, alongside 17 air jets, 11 at the seat and 6 at the feet, from a 4.5A, 500W three-speed air pump. Both figures are correct for their respective packages. The independent foot massage adds a second hydro pump, 5A beside the 7A, with its own intensity dial, so you can enjoy a foot massage without filling the whole tub. Microbubble therapy uses a 1 HP, 7.3A pump with a pressure vessel and an agitator valve. On any air package, Auto Purge activates automatically 20 minutes after the air pump is turned off and runs for 120 seconds to clear the air lines.
Plumbing and Electrical
The two 2 inch drains work by gravity, and the drains sit on the opposite side of the tub from the door: a left-side door puts the drains on the right, and a right-side door puts them on the left, as you face the tub. Choose the door side when you order, and tell your plumber which side the drains will land on.
Every package with a pump needs dedicated GFCI-protected electrical lines at 115/120V, 60Hz, and the spec sheet notes that the amp value for each pump may change based on availability. The soaking configuration has no pumps, so the only electrical item it can carry is the optional heated seat and backrest. Ella does not install the tub; a licensed plumber and electrician do the work, and the team shares the spec sheet and electrical diagrams for your package with them.
How the Transfer60 Compares with Its Neighbors
Two other 60 inch tubs come up in the same searches. The Lounger is 60 inches long by 27 inches wide, with an actual size of 27 by 59 by 40 inches, a U-shape outward-swing door and a 20 inch seat; Lounger Versus Transfer60: A Side-by-Side Comparison From the Spec Sheets sets the two side by side. The Zen60 shares the 30x60 footprint but has an inward-swing door and is built only as a hydro tub, so if you need an outward door and the choice of a soaking tub in a 30x60 alcove, the Transfer60 is the match, as Which 30x60 Walk-In Tubs Have No Jets and an Outward-Swing Door? explains. Your Ella dealer or the team at (800) 480-6850 can confirm the current spec sheet for your order and the electrical lines your package needs.
