Ella's Transfer series is built for wheelchair users and for any bather who wants the easiest possible entry and exit. Every model in the family features an extra-wide L-shaped door that swings outward a full 172 degrees and is designed to fit over a toilet, making side transfers from a wheelchair natural and safe. There are five models, sized from a compact 26-inch width up to the bariatric TransferXXL, and this guide compares them all: the Transfer26, Transfer30, Transfer32, Transfer60, and TransferXXL. One naming note up front: if you see "XXXL" printed on an older schematic or document, that is a misprint of TransferXXL. There is no separate XXXL model.

Figures above come from the current model spec sheets and are quoted in inches, pounds, and gallons. Occupied capacity varies with bather size, which is why it is a range.

Jet Counts Depend on Your Therapy Package, Not Your Model

A common question is "how many jets does my Transfer tub have?" The honest answer is that it depends on the therapy package you purchased, not on which of the five models you own. The package definitions are the same across the whole family, per the current spec sheets:

  • Hydro Massage, or Hydro plus Independent Hydro Foot Massage: 22 hydro jets in total, 16 in the seat and back area and 6 in the footwell. The independent foot massage version adds a second dedicated pump so the footwell jets run without filling the whole tub.
  • Hydro plus Air Massage: 17 air jets (11 seat jets, 2 of which are bidet jets, plus 6 foot jets) together with 11 hydro jets (5 back jets and 6 foot jets).
  • Soaking: no jets.

Microbubble combinations add Infusion microbubble therapy on top of a hydro package. Triple packages are also available: the Transfer32 offers air plus hydro plus microbubble, and the Transfer60 and TransferXXL offer air plus hydro combined with either independent foot massage or microbubble. LED chromatherapy is included with dual and triple packages. If you are ever troubleshooting jets, the first thing to check is which therapy package is on your order confirmation.

Shared Features Across the Family

  • L-shaped outward-swing door in plastic composite and tempered glass, opening 172 degrees, with a 2-latch gear and shaft locking mechanism.
  • Acrylic shell with fiberglass gelcoat reinforcement over a stainless steel frame with adjustable leveling legs.
  • Deck and wall-mounted grab bars, textured floor, and low threshold.
  • Dual Drain Technology: two 2-inch 4-port drains, each with its own stainless-steel-operated opener with an extended handle.
  • Air packages include Auto Purge: about 20 minutes after you turn the air pump off, it starts automatically and runs for 120 seconds to clear leftover water from the air lines. It stops on its own and is completely normal.
  • Optional heated seat and backrest, and an optional digital controller.
  • Faucets: the Transfer26 uses the 2-piece fast-fill faucet (available in chrome or brushed nickel), while the Transfer30, 32, 60, and XXL come with the 5-piece fast-fill faucet set. All include a pull-out multi-function hand shower.

How to Choose Your Transfer Model

  1. Measure your alcove. The 52-inch models (Transfer26, 30, 32) use an 8-inch extension panel to fill a standard 60-inch opening, the Transfer60 fills it natively, and the TransferXXL at 55 inches long uses a 5-inch extension panel.
  2. Match the seat to the bather. Seat widths run 19", 22", 24", and up to 29" on the TransferXXL for bariatric comfort.
  3. Pick your therapy package, since that determines your jets, and remember the Transfer32, Transfer60, and TransferXXL offer triple packages.
  4. Plan clearance for the 172-degree outward door swing in front of the tub.

Common Questions

How many therapy systems can each Transfer model carry?
The Transfer26 and Transfer30 carry two at most. The Transfer32 adds the triple Air + Hydro + Microbubble package, and the Transfer60 offers Air + Hydro + Foot or Air + Hydro + Microbubble. The TransferXXL lists the same triple packages, and the team has confirmed an all-four build on it as a special order; ask before planning electrical.
Does the Transfer come in off-white?
Currently, all Ella's Bubbles Transfer series walk-in tubs are manufactured in white. However, a limited number of leftover Transfer30 units have been offered in an off-white color. If you are interested in an off-white Transfer30, please inquire with your Ella dealer or the Ella's Bubbles team about current availability before placing an order.
Is independent foot massage available on the L-door transfer tub?
Yes, independent foot massage is available on all Ella's Bubbles L-door Transfer walk-in tub models. The Hydro + Independent Hydro Foot Massage package includes a second dedicated pump with its own intensity dial, allowing the footwell jets to operate without filling the entire tub. Additionally, the Transfer60 and TransferXXL models offer this feature as part of a triple package that combines air massage with hydro massage and independent foot massage.
What sizes do the wheelchair Transfer tubs come in?
Five sizes, from the Transfer26 at 26 by 52 up to the TransferXXL at 36 by 55, with the Transfer30 and Transfer32 being the same tub 2 inches wider and the Transfer60 giving the most length at 30 by 60. The 52 and 55 inch models include one extension panel and one end panel like the other 52 inch tubs.
Do I need a wheelchair to choose a Transfer tub?
No. The L shape door drops the whole front so you sit on the seat edge and swing your legs in, which suits anyone who cannot step over a threshold. You only need floor space in front for the door, and a ceiling lift works as long as it can be positioned close to the open door.
How does the Transfer60 compare with the Ultimate on therapies?
The Transfer60 can carry the same three pump package as the Ultimate, hydro plus air plus independent foot massage, and both the Transfer60 and TransferXXL frames accept all four systems. Jet counts on Transfer tubs depend on the package, so read the package table on the spec sheet rather than a single number.
Which Transfer suits a very large bather, and which suits someone who wants to stretch out?
The TransferXXL with its 29 inch seat is the choice for broad bathers up to roughly 400 pounds and six feet or under; the Transfer60 or the Big4One gives more length for stretching out. Do not rely on putting legs up in a two seat tub for a bather with limited mobility.
