In Japan, hydrogen water, baths, and spas are staples of wellness routines. The Ella Hydrogen Generator brings that experience home, delivering micro and nano bubble hydrogen at concentrations up to 2000 ppb for professional spa effects, including improved skin condition across all body areas.
How it works: The pump and unit install beneath the molded seat of the walk-in tub, fed by a distilled water tank, and inject hydrogen through a single jet below seat level. Wait until the water level rises above the inlet jet, then press the on/off control to activate the system. The fast-fill faucet fills an average tub in 7-10 minutes; hydrogen reaches up to 1700 ppb by the time water hits the overflow drain, rising toward 2000 ppb over a 15-20 minute bath.

Antioxidant Support
Free radicals are unstable molecules that can damage cells over time. Molecular hydrogen is described in the research literature as a selective antioxidant, appearing to neutralize the most reactive species while leaving beneficial reactive oxygen species alone.
Inflammatory Balance
Studies on molecular hydrogen have looked at its effect on inflammatory markers, and early findings point toward a calming influence. Many people describe hydrogen bathing as part of a routine for everyday comfort.
Skin Hydration and Feel
Dissolved hydrogen gas diffuses through the skin during a soak, bringing antioxidant activity directly to skin tissue. In a small study of five participants who bathed daily for periods ranging from 11 to 98 days, researchers reported improved moisture levels, particularly in water-deficient skin, and more balanced oiliness - more oil in dry areas, less in oily ones.
Visible Signs of Aging
The same small study reported improvements in wrinkle severity and blotches. A separate clinical evaluation of hydrogen-water bathing also noted changes in pigmentation, wrinkle severity, and estimated biological skin age, with no adverse effects reported - though that study had no control group and a short follow-up, so results should be read as preliminary.
Comfort for Sensitive, Reactive Skin
An 8-week controlled trial of whole-body hydrogen-water bathing in people with inflammatory skin conditions found meaningfully greater improvement in the bathing group than in the control group. Bathing was twice weekly for 10 to 15 minutes. Early research in this area is promising but limited, and hydrogen bathing is not a substitute for care from a dermatologist.
Post-Exercise Recovery
This has the most direct bathing evidence. In a double-blind crossover trial, six young men took either a supersaturated hydrogen bath (8 mg/L) or a plain-water bath for 30 minutes after high-intensity eccentric exercise. A single session of hydrogen bathing prevented the 24-hour rise in biomarkers of muscle damage, keeping levels near baseline, while those markers rose significantly after the control bath. Soreness ratings were also lower both immediately after and at 24 hours. Sample sizes are small, so treat this as an encouraging early signal.
Everyday Performance and Fatigue
Beyond bathing, trials using ingested hydrogen-rich water have looked at exercise responses, perceived exertion, and next-day fatigue. Different delivery method, so it doesn't transfer directly to a soak - but it's part of why researchers are interested in hydrogen for active people.
Stress and Relaxation
Warm water is relaxing on its own. Separately, a double-blind crossover study of 26 volunteers drinking hydrogen-rich water found lower psychological distress scores and reduced resting sympathetic nerve activity compared with placebo, suggesting hydrogen may have its own calming influence worth further study.
Circulation and Warmth
A warm soak naturally encourages blood flow to the skin and extremities, supporting the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to tissues. This is a well-understood effect of warm-water immersion generally.
