Your Outward-Swing Door Owner's Manual, Section by Section, With the Corrections to Know (Capri, Monaco, Front Entry, Mobile, Lounger, Shak, Big4One)

This page walks through the owner's manual for the outward-swing door family, the Ella Capri, Monaco, Front Entry, Mobile, Lounger, Shak and Big4One. It draws on the 28-page "outward-swing-door" owner's manual dated 6/15/23, the October 2021 operations instructions, and the short Front Entry operations sheet, and it flags the printed lines our current published documents have since corrected, including one entry page that describes the wrong door.

Which Manual You Have

The 2023 owner's manual is the full installation and operations document for all seven models. The 2021 operations instructions are an older, operations-only version. The Front Entry operations sheet is a 3-page document for the Front Entry's single-drain layout. If you are unsure which file matches your tub, see manuals, spec sheets and drawings by model.

Section Map

  1. Unpacking and moving. Photograph freight damage and have the driver note it; remove every panel and carry by the frame. This manual prints "all four (3) access panels," a typo; the point is to remove them all.
  2. Safety. Licensed plumber and electrician, dedicated GFCI circuit, no appliances within 3 feet, no hydro jets below the waterline, 100.4 F caution.
  3. Hand shower. Fit the barrel extension hose before wall-mounting the hand shower.
  4. Pre-installation water test. Fill 3 inches above the highest jet, 30 minutes standing, 30 minutes running; see the pre-installation water test.
  5. Drains. Ella 2" T-Type dual port floor drain, four ports, two caps, Y fitting preferred.
  6. Leveling, service access and door seal. Equal weight on every leg; no insulation around the equipment; keep the door open when not in use.
  7. Deck mount grab bar. The large metal washer under the shell is mandatory.
  8. Reversible extension kit (Capri and Monaco only). A different parts count from the inward-swing kit; see extension panels and filler kits by model.
  9. Wall finishing, operations, cleaning, warranty and activation form. Below.

Tools and Parts You Need

  • Grab bar kit: chrome grab bar (1), escutcheons (2), rubber washers (4), metal washers (2), bolts (2), supplied Allen wrench.
  • Capri and Monaco extension kit: L-shape stainless brackets (2), 1" x 1/8" bolts (7), 1" x 1/4" bolts (2), 1/2" nuts (2), 3/8" nuts (7), medium washers (4), small washers (14).

The Entry-Section Carryover: What Your Door Really Is

The entry section of the 2023 manual still reads "the U-shape inward swing door handle... located on the inside of the tub" and its diagram is captioned "Elite U-Shape Stainless Steel and Tempered Glass Inward-Swing Door." You are reading the manual correctly; that page is a printing carryover from our inward-swing tub manual. The Capri, Monaco, Front Entry, Mobile, Lounger, Shak and Big4One feature a plastic-composite and tempered glass door that swings outward 165 degrees, secured by a 3-latch gear-and-shaft mechanism. The right guidance is in how the outward-swing U-shape door works. The feature labels on that diagram remain useful: 4 foot hydro jets on the hydro plus air option, 2 calf hydro jets, bidet air massage jets and two 2" drain openers.

Operations Pages: Drains, Faucets, Controls, Therapies

Drains. Turn a handle clockwise to open and counter-clockwise to close. Do not fill above the center of the drain handle, and never open the door until the tub is completely drained.

Faucets. On the 2-piece fast-fill faucet, lift the lever, turn left for hot and right for cold, press the diverter button under the spout for the hand shower, and push the lever down to turn off. On the 5-piece faucet, the red and blue handles set temperature, and the middle diverter lever turned toward "OFF" with the faucet lever pushed down sends water to the pull-out hand shower. Both hand showers have 5 flow settings on a dial.

Controls. The 2021 operations instructions list the push controls left to right: hydro intensity dial, hydro ON/OFF, LED ON/OFF, air ON/OFF, Infusion Microbubble ON/OFF. The digital pad has a hydro button, a 3-speed air control and a light button. Compare them in push controls vs. the digital touchpad.

Therapies. The hydro dial adjusts pressure; the heater and ozone follow the hydro pump; the light cycles 8 colors; the heated seat preheats 10 to 15 minutes and stops after 20.

The Front Entry Operations Sheet

The Front Entry sheet opens with "The U-shape inward swing door handle is located on the front of the tub," a sentence that gets the handle position right and the swing direction wrong; the Front Entry door swings outward like the rest of the family. Its diagram, "Front Entry Model Shown Above," labels 1 Drain Opener, Air Jets On/Off, Microbubbles On/Off (Optional), Dial Control, Hip & Thigh, Back, Bidet, Upper and Lower jets, a 2" Single Drain and a Safety Chain Puller; the push-control page shows Water, Air and Micro buttons with the hydro intensity dial. Read more in the Front Entry walk-in tub profile.

Printed Lines That Have Since Been Corrected

  1. Door description. As above, the entry page describes an inward stainless door; your door is the outward-swing composite and tempered glass door.
  2. Auto Purge timing. All three documents print "20 minutes after the pump has been turned on." The published figure is that about 20 minutes after you turn the air massage pump off, the Auto Purge starts and runs for 120 seconds to blow leftover water out of the air lines. It cannot be interrupted and you do not need to leave the tub. See the auto-purge air system explained.
  3. Air speed order. The documents print low, medium, high. The published order is once for high, twice for medium, three times for low, and a fourth press to turn off.
  4. Equipment warranty. The warranty page prints a five-year term on supporting equipment. The current warranty is Lifetime Limited on all supporting equipment as well as the shell, frame, door, seal and finish.

Cleaning and Warranty Pages

Flush before first use and monthly: 2 cups white vinegar with 2 cups water, fill to one inch above the highest jets, run 10 minutes, drain. The warranty pages also give the thermostatic control valve a 1-year limited term and end with the two-page Warranty Activation Form for owner and installer. Complete and sign both, include a copy of your receipt and the electrician's license and insurance information, and submit it online at ellasbubbles.com/warranty-activation/ or by mail; it can be completed now if it was missed at installation.

Common Questions

My manual says my Capri has a stainless steel inward-swing door, but mine swings outward, so which is right?
Your tub is right. That entry page is a carryover from the inward-swing manual. Your family has a plastic-composite and tempered glass door that swings outward 165 degrees with a 3-latch mechanism.
Why does the Front Entry sheet show only one drain opener?
The Front Entry uses a single 2" drain with one drain opener and a safety chain puller, which is why its own operations sheet exists. The other models in this family have two 2" drain openers and the dual drain.
What is the safety chain puller on the Front Entry diagram?
The sheet labels a Safety Chain Puller beside the 2" single drain but does not describe its operation. Day-to-day draining is done with the drain opener handle, turned clockwise to open and counter-clockwise to close. If you have a question about the chain on your unit, reach us at ellasbubbles.com/support or (800) 480-6850.
The manual says the air purge runs 20 minutes after the pump turns on, so is mine faulty when it runs after my bath?
No. The printed timing is outdated. The Auto Purge starts about 20 minutes after the air pump is turned off and runs for 120 seconds. It is normal, it cannot be stopped, and you can stay in the tub while it runs.
Is the five-year equipment warranty in my manual current?
No. The current warranty is Lifetime Limited on the shell, frame, door, seal and finish and on all supporting equipment. The thermostatic control valve, where fitted, keeps its own 1-year limited term.
