Why Isn't My Digital Control Pad Lighting Up?

If your digital control pad is not lighting up, the pad has lost its connection to power, because the backlight on the digital touchpad stays on whenever the control box has power. A completely dark pad therefore points at the display cable or the master control box rather than the pad's icons, and the first thing to check is the green power LED on the control box behind the front access panel. If that light is dark, the pad is fine and the power path is the problem; if it is lit, the display plug is the next stop.

Likely Causes

  • A tripped GFCI outlet or breaker, so the control box has no power.
  • The display cable unseated at the display port on the master control box.
  • A control box that dropped its configuration when the jets stopped mid bath.
  • A failed touchpad, which is replaced as a part without touching any pump.

What to Check, in Order

  1. Press Reset on the GFCI outlet serving the tub and confirm the dedicated breaker is on.
  2. Remove the front access panel and look at the green LED on the master control box. No light with a live outlet means the box or its cord, covered in the control box no power guide.
  3. With the LED lit, find the display port on the box and reseat the keypad's plug, pushing firmly for a good connection. Handle the connector slowly to protect the pins.
  4. Still dark? Run the control box reset, reconnect the labeled lines, and test each function from the pad.
  5. If the box has power and the pad stays dark after the reset, the pad itself is the likely part. The touchpad troubleshooting guide shows the replacement: cut the silicone seal, lift the old pad, connect the new one, test it, then set it on its tape and reseal the edges with white silicone.

When to Open a Ticket

Replacement touchpads are matched to your tub, so please open a ticket with your serial number, a photo of the pad, a photo of the control box showing its green LED and the display port, and a note on whether the pad went dark suddenly or faded, and reach your Ella dealer or the team at ellasbubbles.com/support or (800) 480-6850. Electronic controls, including the touchpad and the control box, are covered parts under the Lifetime Limited Warranty on supporting equipment.

Common Questions

Do the digital control lights always stay on?
Yes. The backlight stays on whenever the tub has power, and no sleep setting is documented, so a dark pad is a sign that power or the display connection has been lost rather than a pad that has gone to sleep.
What happened if the jets stopped mid bath and now the pad will not light?
The control box most likely lost power or its configuration during the bath. Check the GFCI outlet first, then the green LED on the box, and run the reset if the light is on.
How do I operate the digital pad, and where is the manual for it?
Touch the air bubble icon once to start the air massage, use plus and minus for intensity, and hold the icon for two seconds to stop. The hydro button starts and stops the pump with one touch. The full walkthrough is in push controls versus the digital touchpad.
Which is right when my touchpad does not match the manual that came with the tub?
The pad is. Pneumatic push buttons are the standard control on most models, so printed material may describe those, while the digital pad is standard on the ShaK, Big4One, the two-seat family and the Lounger Air plus Hydro package. Follow the touchpad guide linked above, and send a photo of your pad if an icon is unclear.
