Does the LayDown Tub Have a Seat? Flat Bottom Design, Seat Figures on Listings, Faucets and Therapy Choices

Updated September 2026

No. The LayDown tubs have a flat floor from end to end with no elevated or molded seat. They are built like a conventional bathtub with a watertight glass door in the side wall, so you lie back in the water rather than sit upright. If a LayDown listing shows seat width or seat height figures, they do not describe anything inside the tub, because there is no seat. Work from the exterior dimensions on the spec sheet, and call with the model if you want the team to read the current figures to you.

How the LayDown Differs from a Seated Walk-In Tub

Every other Ella walk-in tub has a molded seat that is part of the shell, with the seat 15 or 17 inches above the floor of the tub depending on the model. The LayDown skips the seat entirely, which is why it comes in familiar bathtub footprints. The LayDown60 measures 30 inches wide by 60 inches long and 21 inches high, and the LayDown72 measures 32 inches wide by 72 inches long. The door is a glass panel in the side wall, and a glass shower screen is available as an option if you shower in the tub. Watch both sizes in the LayDown video tour, and compare footprints in walk-in tub dimensions by model.

Seat Figures on a Listing

Seat width and seat height are meaningful for seated walk-in tubs, and you may see those fields on a LayDown page as well. They do not point to a hidden seat or a step in the floor. The floor of a LayDown is flat, with no slope or drop-off between the backrest end and the drain end. The authoritative figures for a LayDown are the exterior length, width and height on its spec sheet.

If a Bather Needs to Sit

The LayDown is meant for reclined bathing. Someone who needs to sit upright, or who cannot lower themselves to the floor of the tub and rise again, is better served by a seated walk-in tub or a transfer tub. See assisted bathing options compared and choosing between the tub families. Ella also has two removable seat options that can be installed in a LayDown rather than molded into it, and the team can send images so you can see how they sit in the tub. The deck of a LayDown has no room for hardware, so grab bars are mounted on the wall beside the tub rather than on the tub itself.

One Therapy System per Tub

Seated walk-in tubs can combine hydro massage, air massage and other systems in one tub. A LayDown takes a single system: soaking with no jets, hydro massage, air massage or microbubble. Choose the therapy that matters most to you when you order. The LayDown air massage schematic and the LayDown microbubble schematic show how each of those systems is plumbed.

Faucets

The LayDown60 does not include a faucet and has no faucet option, so it uses an existing or new wall-mounted faucet supplied by you and installed by your plumber. The LayDown72 is faucet-ready and can be ordered without a faucet or with an Ella deck-mount fast-fill faucet in a 2-piece or 5-piece set. Decide this before ordering so the deck is prepared correctly.

Installing It Where a Standard Tub Was

The LayDown60 is made to replace a typical 30 by 60 inch bathtub. It can go in a three-wall alcove, in a corner against two walls, or stand free, so the freestanding wording in the manual describes one option rather than a requirement. Ella does not install. Your licensed plumber and contractor set the tub and finish the walls to it, and the team answers their questions about the sequence by phone with the manual in hand.

Common Questions

Does the 72 inch LayDown tub have an elevated seat?
No, the LayDown72 and LayDown60 tubs have a flat floor from end to end with no elevated or molded seat. They are built like a conventional bathtub, allowing you to lie back in the water rather than sit upright. The watertight glass door in the side wall provides easier entry compared to a standard tub. If a bather needs to sit upright or cannot lower themselves to the tub floor and rise again, a seated walk-in tub or transfer tub would be more suitable.
Why does the listing show seat dimensions for the LayDown?
Seat fields apply to seated walk-in tubs, and any seat figure on a LayDown page does not describe a seat inside the tub because there is none. Rely on the exterior dimensions on the spec sheet, and call with the model if you want the team to confirm the figures.
Can I get hydro and air massage together in a LayDown?
No, you cannot get hydro massage and air massage together in a LayDown tub. A LayDown tub can only accommodate a single therapy system: soaking with no jets, hydro massage, air massage, or microbubble therapy. Seated walk-in tubs are the models that offer combined therapy packages. You must choose the therapy system that matters most to you when you order your LayDown tub.
Does the LayDown tub come with a faucet?
The LayDown60 has no faucet and no faucet option, so it uses a wall-mounted faucet you supply. The LayDown72 is faucet-ready and can be ordered with an Ella deck-mount 2-piece or 5-piece fast-fill faucet or with no faucet.
Can the LayDown be installed in a standard tub alcove?
Yes. The 30 by 60 inch LayDown60 fits the footprint of a typical bathtub in a three-wall alcove or a corner, and it can also stand free against one or two walls. Your contractor sets the tub and finishes the walls to it.
