What the LayDown Air Massage Schematic Shows: Push Control, Control Box, Blower, and the Heated Seat Variant

This page explains the Air Therapeutic Massage component diagram for LayDown tubs, published as air-massage-system.pdf in the 2021/11 uploads (revision 10-16-23), and its heated seat companion lay-down-air-heat.pdf in the /walk-in-tub/schematics/ folder (revision 12-30-25). The Simplest Package on One Page

The diagram is titled "Walk-in Lay-Down Tub, Air Therapeutic Massage". It is one of the simplest schematics Ella's Bubbles publishes: one push control, one control box, one air pump and an arrow to the jets. There is no water pump, no in-line water heater and no ozone generator, because an air massage system moves air rather than bath water. Components and the Signal Chain

The legend prints two components:

The arrows on the page run in this order:

  1. The Push Control (Air Massage) sends its signal to the Control Box.
  2. The Control Box, tagged "Electrical 110V", switches the Air Pump.
  3. The Air Pump, printed "110-120 V, 4.5 A", sends "Air Out to Jets".

Because the chain is so short, it is also the easiest to trace. If the jets do not blow, the three items in play are the push button, the control box and the pump. The push control on Ella tubs connects to the system through a small air hose rather than a wire, so that hose and its connections are worth knowing about; they are described on the push button air hoses and ports page.

Auto Purge Is Built into the Pump

The legend describes the pump as a "Variable Speed Pump with Auto Purge". Auto Purge is not a separate box on the diagram; it is a function of the pump itself. About 20 minutes after you turn the air massage off, the pump starts on its own and runs for 120 seconds to blow leftover water out of the air lines. It cannot be interrupted and stops by itself, and hearing it run after you have left the tub is normal, not a fault. Electrical Printed on the Diagram

The outlet block prints one outlet: "Wall Outlet, GFCI Protected, Dedicated Line, 20 AMP, 120 Volts". The Air Pump is rated "110-120 V, 4.5 A" on the drawing, and the control box carries an "Electrical 110V" tag. The page closes with "Please View Specifications for Electrical Amperage (A), Voltage (V) and Wattage (W)", so the spec sheet remains the document for your electrician. The Air + Heated Seat & Back Variant

lay-down-air-heat.pdf is titled "Air Therapeutic Massage + Heated Seat & Back" and prints "Available On: LayDown". It keeps the air chain above and adds the heated seat chain, for five components in total:

On the drawing the Heat Keypad sits beside the air Push Control, the Surface Heater Box is drawn below the keypad, and the Surface Heater Pads connect to the box. The two chains never cross: the air control box has nothing to do with the heater pads, and the heat keypad has nothing to do with the pump. The outlet block still prints a single "Wall Outlet, GFCI Protected, Dedicated Line, 20 AMP, 120 Volts", so adding the heated seat does not add a line on this diagram. Where Jet Counts Come from

Both diagrams say "Refer to Technical drawing for jet Count" rather than printing a number, because the count depends on the model. For the LayDown60, the spec sheet lists the air massage option as 20 jets with a 3-speed pump, auto-purge that activates 20 minutes after the pump shuts down, and an On/Off push control. Check your own model's spec sheet and technical drawing for its figure. What are the only components on the LayDown air massage schematic?
Two: the Air Massage System (variable speed pump with Auto Purge and an ON/OFF push button) and the Electronic Component Controller, which is the control box. The signal runs push control, control box, air pump, jets.
Why does the air pump run by itself after my bath?
That is Auto Purge, listed on the diagram as part of the pump. About 20 minutes after you turn the air massage off it runs for 120 seconds to clear water from the air lines, then stops on its own. It is normal.
How many dedicated lines does the LayDown air package need?
