What Is the Ella LayDown60 30x60 Walk-In Tub and Its Drain?

Updated September 2026

The Ella LayDown60 is a 30 inch by 60 inch acrylic walk-in tub built for bathing lying down at full length rather than sitting upright. It has a tempered glass inward swing door in a brushed aluminum frame, a flat floor with no seat, and one 2 inch brass drain with overflow rather than the dual drains found on Ella's seated walk-in tubs. How it compares with the larger 32 by 72 model is covered in The LayDown Walk-In Tubs: 30x60 vs 32x72 Sizes, Faucet Options, and Features.

Size, Weight and Construction

The current LayDown60 spec sheet prints these figures:

  • Actual size: 60 inches long, 30 inches wide, 21 inches high
  • Interior floor: 46 inches long by 20 inches wide
  • Shipping size: 63 inches long, 33 inches wide, 29 inches high
  • Net weight 160 lbs, shipping weight 220 lbs
  • Glass door opening 19 5/8 inches wide, with a 115 degree door swing

The shell is gloss white acrylic reinforced with fiberglass gelcoat, set on a stainless steel frame with adjustable leveling legs, and the floor is textured for slip resistance. The straight, narrow side walls make stepping in and out safer than a conventional tub with curved walls. The soaking depth is 15 inches, compared with about 11 inches in a standard bathtub. If an older brochure cover in your paperwork lists the 30x60 as 30 by 52 inches, that is a known misprint. The tub is 30 inches wide and 60 inches long. Unoccupied water capacity is not printed on the spec sheet, so ask the team at (800) 480-6850 to confirm it for your order.

One Drain, Not Dual Drains

Search listings sometimes describe the LayDown60 as a dual drain tub, but the LayDown family is the one Ella line with a single drain. It is made up of a cable operated drain opener, a copper overflow and a 2 inch threaded brass drain, and a large, easy to turn control operates the oversized drain for fast, efficient draining. The owner's manual notes that the connection direction is optional, that fewer turns drain faster, and that the house drain should be verified first. Because this is brass drain hardware rather than a dual drain kit, mention that the tub is a LayDown whenever you order parts.

No Factory Faucet on the 30x60

The LayDown60 is never sold with a factory faucet. The spec sheet states that a pre-existing or new wall-mounted faucet must be used, and there is no faucet option to add when you order. This is the main difference from the LayDown72, which is faucet-ready and offers optional Ella deck-mount faucets. Plan the wall faucet with your plumber before the tub arrives so the rough-in is ready.

Therapy Choices and the Shower Screen

A LayDown takes one therapy system, chosen when you order: soaking with no jets, air massage, hydro massage or microbubble therapy. The air massage version has 20 air jets on a three speed pump with an on/off push control, plus auto purge, which starts automatically 20 minutes after the pump is turned off and blows residual water out of the air lines. The hydro massage version adds a hydro pump with an intensity dial, an in-line water heater and ozone sterilization. Microbubble therapy uses an air pressure pump and a pressure tank with a push control. A folding tempered glass shower screen is an optional accessory for showering in the tub, and the drawing shows a 38 1/4 inch screen span when it is installed.

The video for the 30x60 shows the chrome locking handle on the glass door, the low threshold, the 20 air massage jets and the bi-fold glass shower door with its chrome hinges and bottom gasket. The video also shows a deck-mounted faucet. The current spec sheet lists the LayDown60 as faucet not included, so plan on a wall-mounted faucet.

Common Questions

Does the LayDown60 have dual drains like other Ella walk-in tubs?
No. The LayDown60 has a single 2 inch brass drain with a copper overflow and a cable operated drain opener. It is the one Ella family with one drain instead of dual drains, and the oversized drain is designed for fast draining.
Does the LayDown60 come with a faucet from the factory?
No. The LayDown60 has no faucet option at all, and the spec sheet states that a pre-existing or new wall-mounted faucet must be used. Only the LayDown72 is faucet-ready with optional Ella deck-mount faucets.
Does the LayDown60 have a seat inside the tub?
No. The floor is flat from end to end with no molded seat, so you lie back in the water rather than sit upright. If a listing shows seat figures, they do not describe anything inside the tub, as explained in Does the LayDown Tub Have a Seat?.
How large is the LayDown60 shipping crate when it arrives?
The shipping size is 63 inches long, 33 inches wide and 29 inches high, and the shipping weight is 220 lbs. The crate is lower than a seated walk-in tub crate but still more than 5 feet long, so confirm hallway turns and the bathroom doorway using Installing the LayDown Tubs, Part 1.
Which owner's manual covers the LayDown60 walk-in tub?
One 23-page manual dated 6/15/23 covers both the 30x60 and the 32x72, and the files linked from each product page are identical. Where a page applies to only one size, the manual says so. A section map is in Your LayDown Owner's Manual, Section by Section.
Can the LayDown60 combine air massage and hydro massage together?
No. A LayDown takes a single therapy system: soaking, air massage, hydro massage or microbubble therapy. Choose the therapy that matters most to you when you order.
