When the chromatherapy light will not turn on, the first thing to check is how the button is being used, because the LED has three behaviors that are easy to mistake for a fault. One press starts the cycling colors, repeated single presses lock one solid color, and pressing and holding for about two seconds turns the light off. A light stuck on yellow or red is usually just locked on that color, and a light that will not shut off has not been held long enough. If the button really does nothing, look next at the air tube from the button to the LED control box, which runs on its own transformer, separate from the pump circuits.
Likely Causes
- The light is locked on one color, or the button was tapped instead of held.
- The red air tube from the light button is loose at the LED control box nipple or at the button's locking nut.
- The LED control box has lost power at its three prong connector while the pumps are fine.
- The LED module itself has failed at its three pin connection to the box.
- On a digital touchpad, the pad or its cable to the master control box.
What to Check, in Order
- Press the light button once and wait for the cycle to begin. Press again to step through solid colors, then press and hold about two seconds to confirm it turns off.
- Confirm the breaker and the tub's GFCI outlet are live. Jets running proves the pump circuit, not the light, so keep going.
- Behind the access panel, find the chromatherapy control box. Check that the red tube is firmly on its nipple at the box and tight at the push button with the locking nut. A loose tube means the button's air signal never reaches the relay; the ports are shown in touchpad and push control troubleshooting.
- Check that the three prong power connector on the back of the box is fully plugged in, then listen for a click inside the box when the button is pressed. A click with no light points to the LED module or its three pin connection; no click points to the box or the air signal. Control box with no power light and replacement covers the box checks.
- If the light stopped at the same moment as the jets, look for a shared cause such as a tripped GFCI or a cord pulled loose behind the panel.
- For the full operating guide, see the chromatherapy lights guide.
The video shows the routine on push buttons and the digital touchpad: press once for the full cycling color range, repeat a single press to select a specific color, and hold two seconds to turn the light off.
When to Open a Ticket
If the hose is seated, the box has power and the light still stays dark or lit, a replacement LED light or control box comes through your Ella dealer or the team at (800) 480-6850, or a ticket at ellasbubbles.com/support; if it is the lens you need, a photo lets the team confirm the part. Include your model and serial number, whether you have push buttons or the digital touchpad, a photo of the LED control box and its connections, and a short video of a button press.
