What Is Chromatherapy (LED Light) on a Walk-In Tub?

Chromatherapy on an Ella walk-in tub is a multi-colored LED light inside the tub that cycles through eight soothing colors, adding a relaxing visual dimension to your bath. Owners also call it the LED light, light therapy or the mood light. Press the light button once to start the cycle, keep pressing to hold a color you like, and press and hold for two seconds to turn it off.

How It Works

The LED sits inside the tub and connects to its own chromatherapy control box behind the access panel. The control box is powered through its own transformer, and the light is rated 0.5A, completely separate from the pump circuits. That independence is good news: a tub whose jets run perfectly can still have a light issue, and a light issue does not point to a pump problem. On tubs with push controls, the light button is pneumatic. Pressing it sends a puff of air down a thin red tube to the chromatherapy control box, where a relay clicks and switches the light on, changes the color, or turns it off. The same three presses work on the digital touchpad. Our push controls vs digital touchpad article shows where the light button sits on each panel style.

Which Ella Models Have It

The LED chromatherapy light is included with the dual and triple therapy packages and is available as an extra with hydro-only tubs. It is not offered on the Front Entry with any package, and it is not offered on the LayDown tubs. Our therapy package inclusions cheat sheet lists what each package brings, and the chromatherapy lights guide covers the wiring in detail.

What to Know as an Owner

  • Press and hold is the off command. A light that seems stuck on one color is usually just holding that color, so press and hold for two seconds.
  • If the light will not turn on, check that the red air tube is securely attached at the control box and at the push button, and listen for the relay click when you press.
  • A push button stuck in the down position is an air lock: disconnect the red tube at the control box, let the button pop back up, then reconnect it.
  • If the spec sheet for a Capri or Lounger lists the LED at .04AMP, that is a known misprint of the ozone rating. The LED is rated 0.5A.
  • For a ticket, have your model, serial number, whether you have push controls or a touchpad, and a short video of what happens when you press the button ready at ellasbubbles.com/support. Our control troubleshooting article lists the checks the team will ask about.

Common Questions

How do I turn off the chromatherapy light on my Ella tub?
Press and hold the light button for two seconds. A single press cycles the colors and repeated single presses hold a color, so only a press and hold turns it off.
How many colors does the LED light have?
The LED cycles through eight solid colors. Keep pressing the button to stop on the color you like, or let it run through the full cycle.
Does the light run on the same power as the jets?
No. The chromatherapy light has its own transformer and control box, separate from the pump circuits, and is rated 0.5A. A light that will not turn on is not a sign of a massage pump problem.
Which therapy packages include the chromatherapy light?
It is included with the dual and triple therapy packages and available as an extra with hydro-only tubs. It is not offered on the Front Entry or on the LayDown tubs.
