Seat width and seat height on a walk-in tub describe the molded seat you bathe on: how wide it is across the hips, and how high its surface sits above the tub floor. Ella seats range from 19 to 29 inches wide, and the seat height is roughly 17 inches on most models. The seat has to be wider than your seated hip measurement to be comfortable, which is why measuring yourself seated is the first step in choosing a tub.

How It Works

The seat is molded into the shell as one piece, so it cannot be moved or adjusted. Seat width is measured across the seat surface at hip level. Seat height is measured from the tub floor to the seat surface, and on most Ella models it is about 17 inches, within the 17 to 19 inch range used for accessible seating. That chair-like height makes sitting down and standing up feel natural. The Ultra's 17 inch seat is called ADA-compliant on its spec sheet.

Which Ella Models Have It

Every Ella walk-in tub has a molded seat; what changes is the width. The narrowest seats are 19 inches on the Petite and Transfer26. The Big4One and Transfer32 offer 24 inch seats, the ShaK is 28 inches, and the widest single seat is the TransferXXL at 29 inches. Two-seat tubs list two widths, one per seat; the Escape, for example, has 27 and 29 inch seats. The Ultra carries the 17 inch ADA seat height. What to Know as an Owner

Before you choose a tub, sit in a straight chair and measure your hips and shoulders at their widest, then your seated length from the top of your head to your feet. Compare those figures with the seat width, interior length and seat-to-overflow depth on the drawings for each tub you are considering. Once installed, the seat needs the same care as the rest of the acrylic: approved non-abrasive cleaners only. If the seat feels too low after installation, the shell itself cannot be changed, but a seat riser or cushion may help.
