The TransferXXL has the widest seat in the Ella line at 29 inches, followed by the ShaK at 28 inches. I need a bariatric tub with an outward door.
All three large-bather models open outward. The TransferXXL uses an L-shape door that opens the full side of the tub, and the Big4One and ShaK use the U-shape door for a wide, easy entry. Outward doors need clear floor space in front of the tub for the swing, so measure that area along with your doorways and the tub's exterior size.
Can a wheelchair user use the bariatric tubs?
Yes. The TransferXXL is designed for wheelchair transfer through its extra-large L-shape outward door, and its threshold is among the lowest in the line. Will my floor hold a large tub full of water?
A large tub full of water is a significant load, so a structural check by your contractor is a normal part of planning the installation, especially on an upper floor. As an example, the ShaK weighs 286 pounds empty and can hold 120 gallons with a bather in it. Your contractor can compare the combined weight of tub, water, and bather with what your floor framing is built to carry.
Which tub for a bather around 400 pounds?
There is no published bather weight limit, and support has confirmed the TransferXXL, with its 29 inch seat and 36 inch L shape door, for a bather of about 420 pounds and six feet or under. A larger bather displaces more water, so the occupied capacity drops accordingly. Very tall bathers look at the Shak or the Big4One instead.
Will the Capri work for someone about 280 pounds and five feet tall?
The Capri's 20 inch seat and door opening are tight for a 280 pound bather. Reps point heavier bathers to an outward door tub with a wider seat, such as the Monaco or the TransferXXL, and generally advise an outward door from about 200 pounds up because it is easier to step through.
Is there a weight rating on the molded shower seat?
The molded seat on the one piece and three piece showers has no published rating. Contractors support the hollow underneath with framing for heavier users, and the teak benches rated to 500 pounds in 18, 24, 30 and 36 inch widths are the alternative.
