Verified widths on Ella spec drawings run from 26 inches on the Lounger to 36 inches on the ShaK, the largest single-seat tub, with the 52 inch models such as the Petite at 27.5 inches and the Elite at 30 inches. On a walk-in tub the width is the short side that runs from the front of the tub to the back wall, and the actual inch figure on the spec drawing, not the rounded size in the model name, is the one to check against your doorways and your alcove. Walk-In Tub Dimensions Explained: Which Figure Is the Width, the Length and the Height, and Where to Find the Spec Drawing shows how to read the drawing for your model.
Which Figure Is the Width
Every Ella tub is published with three outside dimensions: width, length and height. The larger of the first two is almost always the length, because a walk-in tub sits lengthwise in the alcove the way a conventional bathtub does. A listing of 52 by 32 by 42 describes a tub 52 inches long along the wall, 32 inches from front to back and 42 inches tall. The order of the figures varies between listings, so read the labels rather than assuming. When a metric figure printed beside an inch figure disagrees with it, the inch figure is the correct one.
Widths of Some Ella Models
- Ella Lounger: 26 inches wide, 60 inches long, 40 inches high.
- Ella Petite: 27.5 inches wide, 52 inches long, 35 inches high. It is sold as a 28 inch tub, which is the nominal size.
- Ella Elite: 30 inches wide, 52 inches long, 35 inches high.
- LayDown 30 by 60: 30 inches wide, 60 inches long, 21 inches high.
- Ella ShaK: 36 inches wide, 72 inches long, 39 inches high, with a 28 inch seat.
Half-inch differences between the name and the drawing are normal rounding, not an error. A tub sold as 28 inches can measure 27.5 inches, and a tub described as a 5 foot tub can measure 59.5 inches long.
Will It Fit Through the Doorway
The fit question usually comes down to the path into the bathroom. The video on this page walks through it: measure every doorway and hallway the tub must pass through, then open the download tab for the tub you are considering on the Ella website to find its actual dimensions, and compare the actual exterior width with your narrowest opening. The video quotes an older width for the Elite; the current spec sheet lists 30 inches, while the Petite figure of 27 1/2 inches in the video matches the current sheet. For the ShaK, which arrives in a large crate, the team asks for a doorway of at least 36 inches. Its full dimensions are in Ella ShaK 36x72: The Largest Single-Seat Walk-In Tub.
Will It Fit the Alcove
Measure your alcove, your doorway and your drain location against the actual inch values on the spec drawing rather than the model name. Height matters more on a walk-in tub than on a standard bath because the walls are tall enough for seated bathing, so compare the height with any window sill, vanity top or fixture beside the tub. If you open a ticket about fit, have the model name and the actual size from the spec sheet ready.
Outside Width Versus Seat Width
The exterior width tells you whether the tub fits the room. It does not tell you whether the seat fits you. Ella seats range from 19 to 29 inches wide, and the seat height is roughly 17 inches on most models. Sit in a straight chair, measure your hips at their widest, and compare that with the seat width printed on the spec drawing, as explained in What Are Seat Width and Seat Height on a Walk-In Tub?. The seat has to be wider than your seated hip measurement to be comfortable.
