LED Chromatherapy Light Will Not Come On: Checks by Control Type Before You Contact Support

If the LED chromatherapy light on your walk-in tub will not come on, the cause is usually a loose plug, an air hose that has lost its connection, or a control box that needs a reset, and you can check all three yourself in a few minutes. The light is wired differently depending on the tub model and the therapy package, so the steps below are grouped by the kind of light button your tub has. Have your model and serial number ready before you contact support so you get the exact steps for your wiring.

Check Power to the Control Box First

Remove the large access panel in front of the seat. It is held on by magnets, so a butter knife or a flathead screwdriver slipped behind the edge will pop it loose. Behind it you will find the control box mounted to the frame. It is blue on most tubs and grey on some. Look for the small power LED on the box. If it is dark, the box is not getting power: check that the breaker has not tripped, reset the GFCI, and test the light button again. If the power LED stays dark after that, follow the control box no-power guide before going any further.

Electrical Light Buttons: Reseat the Cables and Try the Prong Swap

On tubs with an electrical push-button light control, two cables matter: the four-prong cable from the light and the three-prong cable from the button. Make sure both are pushed firmly onto their pins at the box. Also unplug the small wire next to the yellow section labeled LED Light, push it back on, and test the button. If the light still stays dark, try the prong swap.

  1. Look at the back of the light button, which is mounted on the access panel. The cable is plugged onto a set of three prongs, with a second set of three prongs beside it.
  2. Move the plug to the opposite set of three prongs and press it on securely.
  3. Test the light. If your tub has a heated seat and back, do the same swap on the back of the heated seat and back button and test again.

Our cord and plug map shows where each cable lands on the box.

Reset the Control Box

  1. Find where the box plugs into the wall and unplug it for 20 to 30 seconds.
  2. Plug it back in and test the light.
  3. If the light still does not respond, support can walk you through the config switch on the box, which is set for the features on your tub.

You can read more about what the control box does.

Air-Switch Light Buttons: Swap the Hoses to Test

Some tubs turn the light on with an air push button rather than an electrical switch. In that case small air hoses run into the front of the box, and each port is labeled on the white sticker. You can prove whether the light and the box are healthy by swapping hoses.

  1. Pull the hose off the port labeled Light Airswitch and the hose off the port labeled Blower Airswitch Pump #2, then plug each into the other port.
  2. Press the Light button. If the pump starts, hold the button down or press it again as needed to confirm it responds.
  3. Press the other button. It should now operate the light.
  4. Return both hoses to their original ports.

If the light came on from the other button, the light and the box are fine and the problem is the Light button or its hose. If nothing lit up, the fault is in the light or the box, and support will take it from there. For how the hoses connect under the buttons, see the push-button air hose guide.

Why Support Asks for Your Model and Serial Number

The light can be hooked up differently depending on the tub model and the jetting options, so the steps for one tub can send you looking for a cable that another tub does not have. Your model and serial number tell support exactly how your light is wired. The serial label is behind the magnetic access panel next to the door. For an overview of the feature, see what chromatherapy is and the chromatherapy light guide.

Common Questions

The light came on for a few seconds and then went out, what should I check?
Start with the power LED on the control box. If it is lit, move the button cable to the opposite three prongs on the back of the light button and test again. If the light still drops out, send support your model and serial number so they can give you the steps for your wiring.
Which control box should I look for behind the access panel?
The box is mounted to the frame behind the large access panel in front of the seat. It is blue on most tubs and grey on some, and the light and button cables or the small air hoses plug into it. The small power LED on the box tells you whether it is getting power.
Why does the light button run the air pump instead of the light?
That is exactly what happens during the hose swap test, and it is a good sign. It proves the light and the box work and that the original problem is in the Light button or its hose. Put the hoses back on their original ports and let support know the result.
Do I need an electrician to do these checks?
These checks involve low-voltage plugs and small air hoses behind the magnetic access panel, and most owners do them on their own. If you would rather not, a local handyman or plumber can do them and can call support from beside the tub.
Will Ella send a technician to fix the light?
No. Ella supports you by phone and email and ships any replacement part under the warranty, and a local licensed plumber or electrician does any labor. Most light problems are solved with the plug and reset steps above without any labor at all.
