Most walk-in tubs are designed for seated bathing, and lying down in a seated walk-in tub is not recommended, so if a full-body soak is what you want, these are the tubs to look at. The LayDown60 measures 30"W x 60"L x 21"H. If you have an older family brochure whose cover lists the 30x60 model as 30" x 52", please disregard that figure. It is a known cover misprint, and the spec sheet and product page confirm 30" x 60". The LayDown72 is two inches wider at 32 inches, so confirm your alcove width before ordering, and its longer interior can comfortably accommodate bathers over six feet tall.

Faucet Options: This Depends Entirely on the Size You Choose

  • LayDown60: this tub does not come with a faucet, and there is no factory faucet option for it. Plan on using a pre-existing or new wall-mounted (or other customer-supplied) faucet with your LayDown60; standard in-wall fixtures work as long as the spout clears the deck and reaches the tub.
  • LayDown72: this tub comes faucet-ready, and an Ella 2-piece or 5-piece deck-mount fast-fill faucet can be added as an option when ordering. If you choose the No Faucet option instead, your SKU will carry an NF suffix (for example LA3272NF-R), and the faucet-ready deck lets you pair the tub with your own fixtures.

If you are checking an existing order, the SKU tells the story: any LayDown60, or a LayDown72 SKU ending in NF, ships without a faucet. Door and Drain: Different from Every Other Ella Family

  • Door: an inward-swing tempered glass door in a brushed-finish aluminum frame, with a chrome locking handle for a tight, leak-proof seal. The door swings through a 115 degree arc inside the tub with a 19 5/8 inch opening. Enter, remain standing, and close the door before sitting down, since closing it is harder from a seated position.   • Drain: the LayDown family uses a single oversized 2 inch brass drain with an overflow, operated by a large, easy-to-turn drain opener. This differs from the dual-drain hardware on Ella's seated walk-in tubs, so if you ever need drain parts, mention that you have a LayDown model. Therapy Options

Each LayDown can be ordered in one of four configurations, and only one therapy at a time:

  1. Soaking: no jets and no therapy controls, just the deep 15 inch soak.
  2. Air massage: a three-speed air massage system. On the LayDown60 the spec sheet lists 20 air jets. About 20 minutes after you turn the air pump off, Auto Purge starts automatically and runs for 120 seconds to blow leftover water out of the air lines, preventing mold and mildew. It cannot be interrupted and stops on its own, and it is normal even if it starts while you are still in the tub.
  3. Hydro massage: hydro jets (fixed jets at the back and sides, adjustable jets at the feet) with an intensity control dial, an in-line water heater that runs automatically with the hydro pump, and ozone sterilization.
  4. Microbubble therapy: Infusion microbubble therapy delivered through one jet with an air switch, for a warm, skin-softening bath.

The LayDown tubs do not offer LED chromatherapy or the heated seat and backrest, and hydro and air cannot be combined on one LayDown.

  • Verify doorway and hallway clearance against the shipping crate: the LayDown60 crate measures 63"L x 33"W x 29"H.
  • Confirm your alcove width: the LayDown60 is 30 inches wide and the LayDown72 is 32 inches wide.
  • For the LayDown60, have your contractor plan the wall-mounted faucet supply before installation day.

Can the LayDown have hydro and air together?
No, the Ella LayDown walk-in tubs offer one therapy at a time: air massage, hydro massage, MicroBubble therapy, or soaking only. You cannot combine hydro and air massage on a single LayDown tub. Additionally, LED chromatherapy and a heated seat and backrest are not offered on the LayDown models.
Does the LayDown have a seat?
No, the Ella LayDown walk-in tubs do not have a built-in seat. Can grab bars be added to the LayDown?

If your installation requires the drain to exit vertically, a straight-down adapter is available and can be obtained through Ella's Bubbles Technical Support.
Is the inside of the LayDown all flat, with no drop offs?
Yes. The 30 by 60 has an entry door and a floor that is flat front to back, and you rise from the floor as in a regular bath; an optional folding bath seat lets a bather sit and soak the feet. There is no seat molded in and no built in grab bars, so bars go on the wall, never screwed into the shell.
Can I get a left door with a left drain, and can you make a 70 inch version?
Yes, Ella LayDown walk-in tubs are available with both a left door with a left drain and a right door with a right drain. These configurations are offered for tubs with soaking, air massage, hydro massage, or MicroBubble therapy systems. However, only two sizes exist for the LayDown models: 30 inches by 60 inches (LayDown60) and 32 inches by 72 inches (LayDown72); custom lengths, such as a 70-inch version, are not manufactured.
How does the drain work, and where does the pump sit?
The LayDown has a single drain with a turn handle inside the tub and no diverter, so shower controls are separate wall plumbing. The hydro or air pump sits opposite the drain, so a left drain puts the pump on the right, and that is where the dedicated 20 amp GFCI line should go. Set, level, screw the legs down, connect one drain and the supply, plug in; the front apron sits on magnets and a clip and is never tiled over.
Can my mother get out if the door is closed, and what glass is the screen?
