Can a walk-in tub fit in a small bathroom, and which models work?

Updated September 2026

Yes, a walk-in tub can fit in a small bathroom, and Ella's Bubbles builds two models with tight rooms in mind. The Ella Mobile 26x45: The Smallest Walk-In Tub is 45 inches long and 26 inches wide, the model to look at when a 52 inch tub will not fit the room or pass the doorway. The Petite 28x52 is the narrowest stainless-door tub at an actual 27.5 inches wide, and it still finishes a standard 60 inch alcove with its included extension panel.

The Compact Models at a Glance

  • Mobile 26x45. Length 45 inches, width 26 inches and height 39 1/4 inches, with an outward-swing U-shape door, a 19 to 20 inch seat and a step-in of about 3 3/4 inches. No extension panel is offered, so it suits a 45 inch space or a corner rather than a 60 inch alcove.
  • Petite 28x52. Sold as 28 x 52 nominal, with an actual size of 27.5 by 52 by 35 inches and a 19 inch seat behind an inward-swing stainless steel and frosted glass door. The included 7 inch extension panel fills a 60 inch alcove. Read Ella Petite 28x52: The Narrowest Stainless-Door Tub before you measure.
  • Other compact choices. The Capri, at 30 inches by 52 inches, and the Flow, at 28 inches by 48 inches, are compact as well, while the Monaco is 32 inches wide and needs a wider passage.

Getting the Tub into the Room

The doorway is usually harder than the bathroom itself, so measure the path first. You need a door opening larger than 26 inches to fit the narrowest tub, and the passage must be wider than the actual width of the model you choose, counting corners and turns along the way. For a 25 inch opening the Mobile is the only option, and only with the door frame removed. For the Petite, a 30 inch door is no problem, while a 28 inch opening leaves very little margin. Installing in Mobile Homes, Condos, Upper Floors, and on Concrete Slabs covers the measuring. If clearance is tight, open a ticket at ellasbubbles.com/support with your measurements before ordering.

Door Swing and Floor Space

The Mobile's U-shape door swings outward 165 degrees, so leave clear floor in front of the tub. The Capri tour makes the same point: an outward-swing door needs about 21 inches of clear floor in front to open, which a compact bathroom may not have. The Petite's door swings inward.

Fit for the Bather, Not Just the Room

Take hip and shoulder measurements seated in a chair, and measure head to feet while seated for length. The Petite's 19 inch seat suits average widths, and bathers over about 5 ft 10 may find legroom tighter than in longer models. For the same inward door with a wider seat, the Elite 30x52 has 22 inches and the Royal 32x52 has 23 inches. Which Ella walk-in tub is right for me? Choosing between the tub families walks through the whole decision.

The Mobile video below shows the 45 inch by nearly 26 inch footprint, the 19 inch seat, the three-latch outward door and its 14 air and 15 hydro jets. The Petite video shows its 19 inch seat, over 42 inches of interior length and 15 inches of soaking depth.

Common Questions

Will a compact walk-in tub fit through a narrow bathroom door?
The passage must be wider than the tub's actual width, so the narrowest tub needs a door opening larger than 26 inches. For a 25 inch opening the Mobile is the only option, and only with the door frame removed. Send tight measurements to support before you order.
Does a small walk-in tub still come with therapy jets?
Yes. The Mobile offers 14 air jets or 15 hydro jets, and the Petite offers 16 hydro jets or 16 air jets. Because the equipment sits under the seat, these compact frames carry at most two therapy systems.
Is a small walk-in tub comfortable for an average size bather?
The Petite video calls it a great size tub for the average size bather, with a 19 inch seat, over 42 inches of interior length and 15 inches of soaking depth. Bathers over about 5 ft 10 may find legroom tighter than in longer models.
Which compact models work best in a mobile home?
Our team most often recommends the Elite, Petite, Mobile and Front Entry for mobile homes. The Mobile, at 26 by 45 inches, is the compact choice for single-wide homes.
