Most Ella walk-in tubs pass through a bathroom doorway when the clear opening is wider than the tub's actual width on its spec sheet, because the crate can be opened outside and the tub carried in by its frame. The only way to be sure is to measure the front door, every hallway, every interior doorway and each corner the tub must turn, then compare those figures with the model you are considering. Two Sizes on Every Spec Sheet

Every Ella model has a nominal size, the rounded figure in its name, and an actual size, the measured dimension printed on the spec sheet. The spec sheet also carries a shipping size, which is the crated dimension. Use the shipping size to plan the delivery path and the actual tub width for the doorways and hallways the tub itself must pass, since the crate can be opened outside. Never rely on the rounded name. The Elite's actual width is 30 inches, so its passage must be wider than 30 inches, while the Petite at 27.5 inches wide has more room to spare.

How to Measure the Path in

  • Entry door clear width.
  • Each hall width and each interior door.
  • Each corner the tub must pivot through.
  • Bathroom door clear width.

One note: the video quotes an older width for the Elite. The current spec sheet lists the Elite at 30 inches wide, and that is the figure to plan around.

When a Doorway Is Tight

Width is what usually decides it. The Monaco and the Capri are the same outward-swing design in two widths, 32 inches for the Monaco and 30 inches for the Capri, and one customer found the Monaco would not pass through their bathroom doorway and moved to the Capri for that reason alone, keeping the same depth and seat height. Common Questions

Will a walk-in tub fit through a 30 inch doorway?
It depends on the actual width of the model. The Petite is 27.5 inches wide, the Transfer30 is 29 1/4 inches and the Standard is 29 5/8 inches, so each is narrower than 30 inches. The Elite is exactly 30 inches wide, so its passage must be wider than 30 inches.
Do I measure for the crate or for the tub itself?
Both sizes have a job. The shipping size is the crated dimension and plans the delivery path to the house. The actual tub width is what must clear the doorways and hallways inside, since the crate can be opened outside and the tub carried in by the frame.
Why is the tub narrower than its name says?
The name uses the nominal size, a rounded figure for the brochure and product name. The spec sheet prints the actual measured size, sometimes to the eighth of an inch. Whenever the two differ, plan the doorway and the alcove from the actual size.
Should I measure with the door stops in place?
Yes. Measure every opening at its tightest point, with door stops and trim in place, and record the clear width rather than the frame width. That is the figure the tub actually has to pass.
What if the tub will not make the turn into the bathroom?
Measure each corner the tub must pivot through and share those figures with your Ella dealer or the team at (800) 480-6850. In some cases a narrower model of the same design is the answer, as with the customer who moved from the Monaco to the Capri while keeping the same soaking depth and seat height.
