The Transfer60 and the Lounger are both 60 inch long walk-in tubs available with or without jets, and the real differences are the door and the width. The Transfer60 is 60 inches by 30 inches with an L-shape door designed for a seated transfer and a 22 inch wide seat. The Lounger is 60 inches by 27 inches with a U-shape outward-swing door and a 20 inch wide seat. Both are offered as a soaking tub with no jets as well as with therapy packages, so the choice usually comes down to how you enter the tub and how much room the bathroom has.

All figures come from the current spec sheets. The 60 inch length is the nominal size used on product pages and brochures, so always refer to the spec sheet for the actual measurements before framing an alcove or ordering an extension panel.

The Door Is the Biggest Difference

The Transfer60's L-shape door is the reason the Transfer family exists. The lower door line lets a bather transfer onto the seat from a wheelchair or walker while seated, rather than stepping through a taller opening. The Lounger's U-shape door swings outward and is made of a white PVC composite frame with tempered glass, secured by a three-latch gear-and-shaft mechanism. An outward-swing door needs clear floor space in front of the tub, so check the published door widths and swing arcs and confirm the door clears the toilet before you settle on the Lounger.

Width and Seat

The Transfer60 is three inches wider overall, and that extra width shows up as a wider and longer seat. The Lounger gives up two inches of seat width and 2 1/2 inches of seat length. The seat height above the footwell floor is the same on both, and the water depth over the seat is close, with the Transfer60 about 5/8 inch deeper to the top of the overflow. The interior length is nearly identical, so the leg room in the footwell area is similar on both tubs.

Therapy Options and Accessories

Both models are available as a soaking tub with no jets, and both can be ordered with Ella therapy packages. A 10 inch rain shower head can be installed on the wall above most Ella tubs, and the tub can be enclosed with a glass shower screen to keep the spray inside. Door side is chosen at order time on both models, and it is set by where your house drain is, as explained in choosing a left or right door.

Common Questions

Which tub has the wider seat, the Lounger or the Transfer60?
The Transfer60 has the wider seat at 22 inches, compared with 20 inches on the Lounger. The Transfer60 seat is also longer front to back, at 18 1/2 inches versus 16 inches. The seat height above the footwell floor is the same on both tubs.
