How to Read an Ella Spec Sheet: Actual Versus Nominal Size, Shipping Size, Occupied Versus Unoccupied Capacity, Package Jet Tables, Amp Disclaimers and Known Misprints

The spec sheet prints the actual, measured size of the tub, while the product page and brochure print a rounded nominal size, so when the sheet says 27.5 inches and the page says 28, the sheet is right and the sheet is what you plan an installation around. That rule, actual beats nominal, is the first of a handful you need to read an Ella spec sheet confidently. The others: use the shipping size for doorways, use occupied capacity for your water heater, read jet and electrical lines per therapy package rather than per model, expect the pump amp disclaimer on every sheet, and ignore a short list of known misprints that we document below.

Where to Find the Sheet

Every product page has a Downloads section with that model's specification PDF. Spec sheets are per model; owner manuals are per door family, so one manual covers all five Transfer tubs and one manual covers both LayDown sizes, but the Transfer30 and Transfer60 each have their own spec sheet. This clip shows exactly where to click: open the tub you are interested in, choose the Downloads tab, and read the specific dimensions there rather than the headline size. It makes the nominal-versus-actual point with the Petite, listed as 28 inches wide with an actual exterior width of 27 1/2 inches. One caution: the Elite width quoted in this older video has since been superseded by the current spec sheet, which prints 30 inches actual, so take the method from the video and the numbers from the sheet. Actual Size Versus Nominal Size

The first line of the sheet is Actual Size, width by length by height. Examples: Petite 27.5" x 52" x 35" (nominal 28x52); Elite 30" x 52" x 35"; Standard 29 5/8" x 52 3/4" x 37.5" (nominal 30x52); Big4One 33 1/8" x 66" x 39.5" (nominal 33x66). Shipping Size and Shipping Weight

The sheet prints two weights and a shipping size. Net weight is the tub; shipping weight includes the crate. Shipping size is the crated dimension, and it is the number to check against doorways, hallways, stairs and the vehicle, because the tub arrives in that crate. The Petite, for example, ships at 31" x 57" x 47" and 305 pounds even though the tub itself is 27.5 inches wide and 200 pounds. Measuring your route is covered in Will it fit through my doorway?.

Occupied Versus Unoccupied Capacity

Unoccupied capacity is the full tub with nobody in it. Occupied capacity is a range, because your body displaces water, and it is what you actually use and what sizes the water heater. The Big4One holds 127 gallons unoccupied and 75 to 100 gallons occupied; the Elite holds 75 unoccupied and 35 to 55 occupied. Use the gallon figures only: the litre conversions printed on the Big4One sheet were copied from other models and are wrong. Jet Tables Are per Package, Not per Model

This is the most common confusion on the Transfer sheets. A sheet lists 22 hydro jets (16 seat, 6 foot) under Hydro Massage and then 11 hydro jets plus 17 air jets under Hydro + Air. Both are correct; they describe two different packages you can order, and a soaker has none. Read the block for the package you bought or intend to buy. The same logic applies to the electrical lines: each package block prints its own pump amperage, heater amperage and jet count, and the LED chromatherapy light (0.5A) and ozone sterilization (0.04A) are separate lines with separate ratings. The Amp Disclaimer

Every sheet carries the note that the amp value for each pump may change based on availability and should be verified before purchase. It is there because pump suppliers change over time. Your electrician should size the circuits from the package you actually ordered, confirmed with the team at (800) 480-6850, and every jetted package still lands on dedicated GFCI protected circuits: 20 amp, 120 volt on every model except the Flow, which is specified at 15 amps.

Known Misprints to Ignore

• Metric conversions. Several sheets print wrong centimetre, kilogram or litre figures next to correct imperial ones (a Petite shipping weight in kilograms that is ten times too high, a Transfer30 weight conversion that is really a length, a Front Entry dimension with an extra digit). The inch, pound, gallon and GPM values are the specification; ignore the metric.
• Big4One litres. The litre figures next to 127 gallons and 75 to 100 gallons belong to other models. Use gallons.
• Zen and Zen60 door line. The sheets say U-shape; the Zen family uses the same inward-swing S-shape acrylic door as the Standard.
• Tub4Two door line. The feature list mentions an inward removable stainless door; the Tub4Two has an outward-swing door with a tempered glass panel and the 3-latch mechanism, as the sheet's own title says.
• LED amp rating on Capri and Lounger. Those sheets print 0.04A for the LED; that is the ozone rating. The LED is 0.5A on every other sheet.
• Auto purge wording in some manuals. The air system purges for 120 seconds about 20 minutes after the air pump is turned off, not after it is turned on.
• Petite 27 inches in one manual's extension kit table. The actual width is 27.5 inches.
