Where the Hose Is and How to Reach It

The faucet body sits on the deck, and its supply lines run down behind the front apron to the mixing valve or diverter. A small access panel on the front of the tub next to the door is held on by magnets and pulls straight off by hand. Behind it you will see the lines that connect the valve or diverter to the spout and the hand shower. Room is tight, so a flashlight helps. The serial number label is behind the same panel, so note it while you are there.

Which Hose Do You Have?

Ella has used several faucet sets over the years, and each uses its own supply lines, so the first thing support needs to know is which faucet is on your tub. Your manual may show a metal flex line while the tub itself was fitted with a black flexible line. Both are normal, and the replacement is matched to what is actually installed. To identify the faucet, count the handles on the deck. A set with a temperature handle, a spout handle and a sprayer handle is the thermostatic control valve (TCV) faucet. Getting the Replacement Hose

1. Shut off the hot and cold supply valves to the tub, or the house supply if the tub has no stops.
2. Remove the magnetic panel beside the door and locate the leak. Black or crusty buildup around a fitting usually marks the spot.
3. Photograph the leak point, both ends of the hose where they connect, and the faucet handles on the deck. Note whether it is the hot or the cold line and whether it feeds the spout or the hand shower.

Who Does the Work

While the Panel Is Off

A leak under the deck sometimes shows up first as a wet ceiling in the room below, and the hose is not always the only cause.
