Ella's wheelchair Transfer walk-in tubs come in three 52 inch long sizes: the Transfer26 at 26 inches wide, the Transfer30 at 30 inches wide and the Transfer32 at 32 inches wide. All three stand 40 inches tall, use the same oversized L-shaped outward-swing door with a two-latch gear and shaft lock, and include an 8 inch extension panel so any of them finishes inside a standard 60 inch alcove. Longer members of the family, the Transfer60 and the TransferXXL, are introduced in Wheelchair Transfer Tubs on Video: Transfer26, Transfer30, Transfer32, Transfer60, TransferXXL and the Legacy S-Class 3655.
The Three 52 Inch Sizes Side by Side
The figures below come from the current spec sheets. The inch and gallon values printed there are the authoritative specifications if an older chart or brochure shows something different.
26 by 52 by 40 inches with a 19 inch wide seat. It holds 75 gallons unoccupied and 35 to 55 gallons occupied, weighs 205 pounds net and 300 pounds shipping, and arrives in a 29 by 60 by 50 inch crate. Details are in
30 by 52 by 40 inches with a 22 inch wide seat. It holds 80 gallons unoccupied and 35 to 65 gallons occupied, weighs 220 pounds net and 366 pounds shipping, and ships in a 33 by 55 by 50 inch crate
32 by 52 by 40 inches with a 24 inch wide seat. It holds 107 gallons unoccupied and 45 to 65 gallons occupied, weighs 215 pounds net and 373 pounds shipping, and ships in a 35 by 55 by 50 inch crate
The video below shows the 30x52 and 32x52 models next to each other, points out the 22 inch and 24 inch seat widths, and explains that soaking depth is set by the interior length, the seat length and the distance from the top of the seat to the center of the overflow. It gives the Transfer32 soaking depth as 14 1/2 inches. When you plan the path into the home, measure around the crate size rather than the tub size.
Which Width Fits Which Bather and Bathroom
The Transfer26 is the narrowest low-threshold walk-in tub Ella makes. It is meant for petite to average body types and for bathrooms where a wider tub will not fit, and its smaller capacity is lighter on the water heater. The Transfer30 is the standard size and, according to its product page, the most popular member of the family. The Transfer32 puts its extra 2 inches into a roomier 24 inch seat for larger body types who want more hip room while staying in a 52 inch footprint, and it is the smallest Transfer model to offer a three-system package that combines air massage, hydro massage and Infusion microbubble therapy in one tub.
All three share the L-shaped door, which the Transfer30 spec sheet lists at 36 inches wide. Its winged shape lets it swing over a standard toilet in a typical vanity, toilet, tub layout, and it leaves no sidewall beside the seat, so a wheelchair user slides straight across onto the seat. The door opens outward through 172 degrees on the Transfer30 and Transfer32, so keep the floor in front of the tub clear.
Hydro Massage, Whirlpool and Air Massage Names
Listings describe these tubs as acrylic hydro massage, whirlpool or air massage walk-in bathtubs. Those names refer to the therapy package on the order, not to a different tub. Every size is an acrylic tub, and the package menu includes hydro massage with an intensity control dial and in-line water heater, three-speed air massage with auto purge, independent foot massage with its own pump and dial, Infusion microbubble therapy, ozone sterilization, a heated seat and backrest, and chromatherapy. Because the jet count follows the package purchased rather than the model, ask your Ella dealer or the team at (800) 480-6850 for the spec sheet that matches the package you are considering.
