The Ella Transfer32 is the widest of the three 52 inch long wheelchair transfer tubs, built around the oversized L-shaped outward-swing door that lets a bather slide onto the seat from a wheelchair or walker while seated. The current spec sheet lists an actual size of 32 by 52 by 40 inches, a 24 inch wide molded seat, 107 gallons of water unoccupied and 45 to 65 gallons occupied, and an 8 inch extension panel so the tub finishes inside a standard 60 inch alcove. Its two narrower siblings are lined up in Which Ella Wheelchair Transfer walk-in tub sizes are available: 26x52, 30x52 or 32x52?.
Size, Seat and Capacity
- Actual size 32 by 52 by 40 inches; shipping size 35 by 55 by 50 inches.
- Net weight 215 pounds; shipping weight 373 pounds.
- Seat 24 inches wide. The product video gives a 15 1/2 inch seat length and a 14 1/2 inch soaking depth, measured from the top of the seat to the center of the overflow.
- Interior length 43 3/4 inches on the spec drawing.
- Water capacity 107 gallons unoccupied and 45 to 65 gallons occupied.
- One reversible end panel and an 8 inch extension panel included.
The Transfer32 puts its extra 2 inches over the Transfer30 into the roomier 24 inch seat, so it is positioned for larger body types who want more hip room while staying inside a 52 inch footprint. The shell is gloss white acrylic reinforced with fiberglass gelcoat on a stainless steel frame with adjustable leveling legs, with a removable front apron with two access panels and chrome deck and wall-mounted grab bars. Plan the path into the home around the crate size rather than the tub size.
The L-Shaped Transfer Door
The door opens 172 degrees, and the spec drawing calls out a 20 inch door swing clearance. The opening leaves no sidewall beside the seat, so a wheelchair user slides straight across from the chair, and the door allows toilet clearance of up to 21 inches in height. Its two-latch gear and shaft lock gives a tight, leak-proof seal. Door side is chosen at order time, and the drains sit on the opposite side of the tub from the door, so confirm your house drain location and the clearance in front of the tub with your installer before you order. How do I choose a wheelchair accessible walk-in tub? covers how the width, the door and the therapy package fit together, and What is an accessible bathtub, and who are walk-in tubs designed for? shows the three Ella door styles on video.
Therapy Packages and Jet Counts
There is no single jet count for the Transfer32, because the jets depend on the therapy package you choose. The spec sheet lists six configurations: Soaking, Hydro Massage, Hydro Massage plus Microbubble, Hydro plus Hydro Independent Foot Massage, Air plus Hydro, and the triple Air plus Hydro plus Microbubble. The LED chromatherapy light is included with the dual and triple packages.
- Hydro Massage: 7A pump, 22 jets (16 seat and 6 foot), intensity dial, ozone sterilization, on/off push control and a 6A 650W in-line water heater.
- Hydro plus Independent Foot Massage: two hydro pumps, 5A and 7A, each with its own intensity dial, on the same 22 jets.
- Air plus Hydro: 4.5A 500W three-speed air pump with auto-purge, which activates 20 minutes after the pump shuts down, driving 17 air jets (11 seat and 6 foot) alongside 11 hydro jets (5 back and 6 foot).
- Microbubble: 1 HP 7.3A pump with a pressure vessel, agitator valve and on/off push control.
A heated seat and backrest is optional. The tub comes with Ella's 5-piece faucet, rated up to 18 GPM at 60 PSI in ideal in-home plumbing, with two 5 foot supply lines and a pull-out chrome hand shower on a 5 foot retractable hose. Two 2 inch four-port drains with two overflows empty the tub from both ends. The first video on this page shows the L-shaped door tub with the independent foot massage option, its separate pump and intensity dial, the dual drains, chromatherapy, the optional heated seat and the four-fold glass screen. The second shows the Transfer tub's low threshold, textured floor, microbubble, three-speed air massage, hydro massage with in-line heater and ozone sterilization. Wheelchair Transfer Tubs on Video puts the 30x52 and 32x52 models side by side.
