What Is a Seat Pillow Riser on a Walk-In Tub?

A seat pillow riser, also called a seat riser or riser cushion, is a moderately soft foam cushion, about 20 1/2 inches long by 13 inches wide by 3 1/2 inches high, that sits on the molded seat of a walk-in tub with suction cups to add height and comfort. It comes in a standard rectangle or in a U-shape with a bidet cutout, so the bidet air jets at the base of the seat still flow freely while you sit on it.

How It Works

The molded seat on Ella tubs is about 17 inches high and is not adjustable, so the riser is the way to sit higher. Suction cups hold it to the seat; no drilling or adhesive touches your tub. The standard riser covers the seat area, while the cutout version leaves the bidet area open so the air jets keep working. The cutout riser fits one way and is not reversible, so orient the opening over the jets. A 6 inch riser is available for the Ultimate, but it covers the seat jets and is made to order. The full accessory line-up is in swivel tray, seat pillow riser and seat cushions, and bidet jets and where the air jets sit explains which jets sit under the seat and therefore which shape you need.

Which Ella Models Have It

The riser is an accessory rather than a built-in part, and it fits the Elite and most seated tubs. The Transfer60 takes the seat riser but has no separate back cushion, and the Ultimate has the made-to-order 6 inch riser as well as the standard one. What to Know as an Owner

Suction cups hold only on a clean, flat, smooth section of the shell, so clean the seat and the cups with soap and water, dry the cups, and press them flat, away from jets, texture lines and the seat edge. Cups are simple wear items: if one stretches, pops out of its mount or is missing, open a ticket at ellasbubbles.com/support with a photo of the cushion and the cup mount and a replacement is arranged; see headrest and pillow suction cups. Risers can be added after your original purchase, and a seat riser has been offered as an alternative through the free accessory for reviews program when one was available.

Common Questions

What is a seat riser for a walk-in tub?
It is a foam cushion, about 20 1/2 by 13 by 3 1/2 inches, that sits on the molded seat with suction cups to raise you a few inches and add comfort. Because the molded seat is not adjustable, the riser is the simplest way to sit higher.
Should I choose the standard riser or the bidet cutout version?
Choose the U-shaped cutout riser if your tub has an air package, so the bidet air jets at the base of the seat still flow. The cutout version fits one way and is not reversible. A hydro-only or soaking tub has no bidet air jets, so the standard rectangle works well.
Why does my seat riser keep sliding?
Almost always placement or a film on the surface. Clean the seat and the cups with soap and water, dry the cups, and press them flat on a smooth section of the seat away from jets, texture lines and the seat edge. If a cup has stretched and no longer grips, a replacement is available through a ticket.
Can I add a seat riser after my tub is installed?
Yes. Risers, seat pillows and headrests attach with suction cups, and the swivel tray pins into a threaded fitting on the deck, so none of them needs plumbing work and all can be added after your original purchase. Give your Ella dealer or the team your model and serial number.
