How the Tub Is Packed for Shipping

Tubs ship in a multi-piece corrugated box three quarters of an inch to an inch thick or in a half-inch plywood crate, the skids are wrapped in plywood to protect against forklifts, and each custom skid has support layers under every tub foot. That is why the shipping weight runs 25 to 200 pounds above the net weight, and why the crate is worth keeping until the installation is finished. Will My Floor Support It?

Your subfloor must be level and rated to carry the tub, the water, and the bather together. As a sense of scale, water weighs about 8.3 pounds per gallon, and a mid-size tub can hold well over 60 gallons in addition to its own weight and yours, so a structural check by your contractor is a standard part of any walk-in tub installation, especially in older homes, mobile homes, and second-floor bathrooms; see installing in mobile homes, condos, upper floors and slabs. Proper leveling matters just as much as strength: every leveling leg must touch the floor with equal weight, because an unlevel frame can warp the shell, misalign the door, and cause leaks that void the warranty. Moving the Tub Safely

1. Remove the front apron access panels and end panel(s) before carrying the tub. On Ultra family tubs remove all four access panels; two-seat models also have toe kick plates.
2. Lift only by the frame, never by the plumbing or the panels. Air jets on the underside can break off if the tub is dragged.
3. Keep the crate until installation is complete. Returns are accepted only in original packaging, and the crate protects the tub if anything on site delays the install.

This installer video follows a Transfer60 from the truck to the finished bathroom. On arrival the crate and packing come off for a damage inspection, all end and side panels are removed before the tub is moved in, and the tub is filled outside with every pump running to check for leaks before it goes into the house. It then covers the floor opening for the 2 inch drains, capping one side of the T-type dual drain, the included 5 foot supply lines with reachable shut-off valves, the electrician's dedicated GFCI outlets, leveling on the adjustable legs so the door closes and seals, and a final fill-and-run test before the panels go back on. Is There a Bather Weight Limit?

There is no set bather weight limit on Ella walk-in tubs. If you can comfortably fit in the tub, the tub will hold you: the acrylic shell is reinforced with a rustproof stainless steel frame, and bariatric-friendly models like the ShaK (28" seat) and TransferXXL (29" seat) are built for larger bathers.
