No. Every Ella's Bubbles tub is built with a door, and that includes the LayDown models. Ella specializes in walk-in tubs, so a doorless version of any model is not offered. If you are picturing a conventional soaking tub with a bifold shower door on top, the closest Ella option is a LayDown tub, which lets you recline at full length while still stepping in through a low glass side door.

Why Every Ella Tub Has a Door

The door is the whole point of a walk-in tub. It lowers the step-in from the height of a conventional tub wall to a low threshold, so you walk in rather than climb over. The door, its integrated gasket and the multi-latch locking mechanism are engineered together with the shell, so a model cannot simply be built with the door left out. That is true whether you choose an inward-swing or an outward-swing door, a seated tub or a lay-down tub.

If You Want to Lie Down

Ella offers two LayDown walk-in tubs for bathers who want a full recline: the LayDown 30x60 and the LayDown 32x72. Both have a glass side door, and both can be ordered with an optional glass shower screen. The LayDown 30x60 has no factory faucet option and needs a customer-supplied faucet, typically wall mounted. The LayDown 32x72 is faucet ready and can be ordered with an optional Ella deck-mount fast-fill faucet.

All other Ella walk-in tubs are designed for seated bathing. Lying down in a seated walk-in tub is not recommended and could be hazardous.

What You Can Leave Off

While the door is fixed, several other features are optional. Many models can be ordered as a soaking-only tub with no jets, no pumps and no electrical, which is explained in Soaking-Only Walk-In Tubs and What Is a Soaking Walk-In Tub?. Therapy packages, faucet choices and door side are chosen at order time, and the tub is then assembled and tested for your order, as described in What Do Built to Order, In Stock and Preorder Mean?.

Choosing the Door Instead of Skipping It

Outward-swing doors need more clear space in front of the tub but make entry easier. Inward-swing doors suit smaller bathrooms and can be removed for cleaning. Door side is driven by your house drain: a right-side door tub has its drains on the left, and a left-side door tub has its drains on the right, as you face the tub. Confirm the side with your installer before ordering.

Common Questions

Can I get a LayDown tub without the side door?
No. The LayDown 30x60 and LayDown 32x72 are walk-in tubs, and the glass side door is part of the design. The door is what lets you step in at a low threshold before lying back at full length. A doorless LayDown is not offered.
Can the door be removed after the tub is installed?
Inward-swing doors can be lifted out for cleaning and then put back. The tub is never used with the door out, because the door and its gasket hold the water in. Ask your installer before removing any door.
Does a soaking-only tub still come with a door?
Yes. A soaking-only tub leaves out the jets, pumps and electrical, but it is still a walk-in tub with a door, seat and low step-in. The door style and side are chosen exactly as they are on a jetted model.
Which Ella tubs let me lie down at full length?
The LayDown 30x60 and the LayDown 32x72 are the two models designed for lying down. Both have a glass side door and an optional glass shower screen. Every other Ella walk-in tub is built for seated bathing.
