Where Everything Is on a U-Shape Outward-Swing Tub: The Brochure Callout Diagram Explained (Capri Shown With Air + Hydro)

This page explains the labeled callout diagram printed in the Ella U-Shape Outward Swing Door Acrylic Walk-In Tubs brochure, so you can match every label to the part on your own tub. The brochure covers the seven outward-swing models (Capri, Monaco, Lounger, Big4One, Shak, Front Entry and Mobile) and draws its diagram on a Capri fitted with the Air plus Hydro option. Facts here come from that brochure and from the current Capri spec sheet (dated 6/7/23), with two known misprints corrected. For the model itself, see the Capri profile, and for a walk around the whole family, the U-shape door family video tour.

What the Brochure Diagram Shows

The diagram is a view of a Capri with its outward-swing door open. Because the tub shown has Air plus Hydro, both air and hydro jet groups appear, along with three push controls and an intensity dial. A Hydro-only, Hydro plus Microbubble or Hydro plus Foot Massage tub will not have every jet group pictured, but the deck, drains, faucet and door callouts apply to all seven models. Labels are listed exactly as printed.

Deck Callouts, Including the Foot Massage Intensity Control

Brochure labelWhere it sits and what it does
Deck-mounted grab barChrome stainless steel bar on the deck; a wall-mounted bar is also included
Grab barThe wall-mounted bar
2 drain openersTwo cable-operated handles, one per floor drain
Foot massage intensity controlThe intensity dial as labeled on this diagram; it adds or reduces air in the hydro stream
Air jets on/offPush control labeled "Air"; cycles high, medium, low, then off
LED light on/offPush control labeled "Light"
Hydro jets on/offPush control labeled "Water"
Pull-out adjustable hand mixerHand shower with 5 water pressure modes
Spout, cold water switch, diverter, hot water switchThe 5-piece fast-fill faucet

The "foot massage intensity control" label is the one deck item that surprises people. The Capri spec sheet lists one intensity dial air control on the Hydro Massage package and two on the Hydro plus Hydro Independent Foot Massage package, which runs two hydro pumps. So a single-pump tub has one hydro intensity dial, and a tub with the foot massage option has a second dial for the foot well jets. See independent foot massage.

Jets by Location

Numbers in the labels name the jet group, not the total. The Capri spec sheet lists Hydro Massage as 15 jets (9 seat plus 6 foot) and Air Massage as 14 jets (8 seat plus 6 foot). Other models in the family have their own counts; see jet counts by model and package.

The 3-Latch Door and 165 Degree Swing

All seven models feature a plastic composite and tempered glass door that swings outward, opening to 165 degrees, and is secured by a 3-latch gear and shaft mechanism. The brochure lists this "door security system" as an included feature on every model. Because the door opens outward, the tub needs clear floor space in front of it; how to close, lock and care for the handle is covered in how the outward-swing U-shape door works. If you happen to be reading the printed family manual, note that its entry-section diagram shows a stainless steel inward-swing door; that page is a carryover from another Ella manual and does not describe these tubs.

Included Features on All Seven Models

  • Pull-out hand shower with 5 water pressure modes
  • Ella 5-piece or 2-piece fast-fill faucet in chrome, with two 5 foot supply lines
  • LED chromatherapy light
  • 3-latch door mechanism with gear and shaft mechanism
  • Deck and wall grab bars, textured floor, reversible end panel
  • Dual Drain Technology: gravity-driven dual 4-port or 2-port 2 inch drains, each operated independently by a stainless steel cable with an ergonomic handle

Upgrades described in the brochure are Heated Seat and Back (radiant surface heaters run by an On/Off push control or the digital control, usable while the tub fills) and Independent Foot and Calf Massage with 6 jets dedicated to the feet and calves so the foot well can be used on its own. Optional accessories are the Ella 4-Fold shower screen, the 10 inch rain shower column kit and a headrest neck support. Which of these is on your tub depends on your order.

Extension Panel Exclusions

The brochure lists an extension panel for a 60 inch alcove, with a clear exclusion: it is not available for the Big4One, Shak, Front Entry and Mobile. So within this family only the Capri, Monaco and Lounger are listed for the panel; the Capri spec sheet includes an 8 inch extension panel with its reversible end panel. Full guidance is in alcove fit and extension panels.

Nominal Sizes Versus the Spec Sheet

ModelSize as printed in the brochure
Capri30"W x 52"L
Monaco32"W x 52"L
Lounger27"W x 60"L
Big4One33"W x 66"L
Shak36"W x 72"L
Front Entry32"W x 40"L
Mobile26"W x 45"L

These are nominal sizes for comparison. For doorways, alcoves and framing use the "actual size" line on the model's spec sheet; the Capri sheet prints 30" x 52" x 40" actual, with a 20 inch seat width. Two spec-sheet misprints are worth knowing. The Capri and Lounger sheets print ".04AMP" for the LED chromatherapy light; the correct LED rating is 0.5A, and 0.04A is the ozone sterilization rating that was copied by mistake. The spec sheets also carry the standard note that pump amp values may change based on availability, so confirm electrical figures with your Ella dealer or the team at (800) 480-6850 before your electrician plans the circuit. All brochures are listed in brochures and catalogs by tub family.

Common Questions

Why is the dial on the diagram labeled foot massage intensity control when my tub has one dial?
The brochure labels the dial for the Independent Foot and Calf Massage configuration, which adds a second hydro pump and a second intensity dial for the foot well. The Capri spec sheet lists one intensity dial air control on a single-pump Hydro Massage tub and two on the Hydro plus Hydro package. One dial on your deck is normal for a single-pump tub.
How many jets does a Capri have?
The Capri spec sheet lists 15 hydro jets (9 seat plus 6 foot) for Hydro Massage and 14 air jets (8 seat plus 6 foot) for Air Massage. The numbers on the diagram labels name jet groups, not totals.
How far does the U-shape door open?
The door swings outward to 165 degrees and locks with a 3-latch gear and shaft mechanism. Leave clear floor space in front of the tub so the door can swing fully.
Which outward-swing models can use the 60 inch alcove extension panel?
Capri, Monaco and Lounger. The brochure states the extension panel is not available for the Big4One, Shak, Front Entry and Mobile.
My Capri spec sheet says the LED light is .04AMP; is that right?
No, that is a known misprint on the Capri and Lounger sheets. The LED chromatherapy light is rated 0.5A. The 0.04A figure belongs to the ozone sterilization system.
Do the brochure sizes match the spec sheets?
Brochure sizes are nominal. Use the actual size on each model's spec sheet for fit; for the Capri that is 30" x 52" x 40". Spec sheets for every model are linked from the manuals and spec sheets article.
