If your tub will not stop purging, first compare what you are seeing with a normal purge: the Auto Purge runs once, about 20 minutes after the air pump is switched off, for 120 seconds, and then stops on its own. A blower that keeps running past that, or a purge cycle that comes on twice in the same hour, is not the purge at all; it is the control box failing to shut the air pump off. The first thing to do is cut power to the tub at the breaker so the blower stops, then reset the control box.
Likely Causes
- A control box fault that keeps the air pump energized or repeats the purge cycle. The Auto Purge guide describes what a normal cycle looks like so you can tell the difference.
- The air pump is plugged straight into the wall outlet instead of the outlet on top of the blue control box. A pump on the wall runs continuously by design.
- A stuck push button or an air lock in its tube holding the signal on, which the reset also clears.
- A reset that was done with the wrong blink count, or with the air and water hoses swapped on the box, which leaves the box behaving oddly after a repair.
What to Check, in Order
- Time it. One burst of air roughly 20 minutes after the air massage was turned off, lasting about two minutes, is normal even if you are still in the tub. Anything longer, or a repeat within the hour, is a fault.
- Switch the tub off at the breaker. That stops the blower immediately and is the safe first step.
- Open the access panel and look at where the air pump is plugged in. If it is in the wall outlet rather than the female plug on the blue box, that is why it never stops; it needs to be on the box.
- Run the reset in the control box reset guide: label and disconnect every air tube and electrical connection, restore power, hold the config button until the green LED cycles through one, two, three and four blinks, release it, then reconnect everything and test each function.
- If the blower still runs constantly after the reset, or the green LED never goes solid, the box itself is the problem. The control box diagnosis and replacement guide explains the swap and the return label for the old box.
When to Open a Ticket
A control box that will not reset is a warranty part. Leave the breaker off, then open a ticket with your model and serial number, a photo of the control box showing the LED, whether your tub has chrome push buttons or the digital keypad, and the blink count you set during the reset. Contact your Ella dealer or the team at ellasbubbles.com/support or (800) 480-6850, and keep the old box for the return label that comes with the replacement.
