There is no deadline to install an Ella walk-in tub once it has been delivered, so it can wait as long as your project needs, provided it stays in its original packaging, indoors and out of the weather. If you have nowhere dry and warm to keep it, the better option is to leave the tub at the Ella dock and schedule delivery close to installation day, as explained in Can Ella Hold My Tub at the Warehouse Until My Bathroom Is Ready?. Whichever route you take, the inspection you do in the first 48 hours after receipt is the step that matters most, because that clock runs whether or not the tub goes in right away.
How Long the Tub Can Wait After Delivery
Many customers take delivery before the bathroom is even framed so the tub is on site when the plumber and electrician are scheduled, and that works fine. Ella walk-in tubs are assembled and tested to order, so buying ahead also secures the exact configuration for your project instead of assuming it will be on hand later. The tub is covered once it is installed and the warranty is activated, and the months it spent waiting do not change that. The full explanation is in Is There a Deadline to Install My Walk-In Tub After Delivery?.
Two dates do keep running while the tub sits in storage, and both start at delivery rather than at installation:
- Freight damage must be reported within 48 hours of receipt. This window does not reopen when you finally uncrate the tub for installation.
- The 30-day return window applies only to brand new, uninstalled tubs in original packaging, and it does not pause while the tub waits. A 25% restocking fee applies to returns. If you take delivery well ahead of installation, that window will very likely close before the tub goes in.
Warranty activation is separate from both. The warranty is not activated at delivery. It goes into force when the activation form signed by you and your installer is returned with the required documents, so a tub in storage is simply waiting for that step.
Where to Store the Tub at Home
The guidance is short: keep the tub in its original packaging, indoors and out of the weather, until the installer is ready. When a tub arrives before the installer can set it, staff recommend keeping it out of the cold to be safe. Applied to the usual choices:
- A conditioned room inside the house is the safest place. A spare room, a finished basement or the future bathroom itself keeps the tub dry and warm.
- A garage is acceptable when it keeps the weather off and the tub out of the cold. An unheated garage in freezing weather does not meet that recommendation, and if the garage is your only option in winter, the dock hold described below is the better route.
- Outdoors, on a porch, under a carport or under a tarp is not recommended. The guidance is indoors and out of the weather, and none of those spots qualifies.
Leave the packaging on. The crate and wrap are designed to protect the tub, returns are accepted only in original packaging, and you should keep every piece of packaging until installation is complete and you are certain the tub is sound. Pick the storage spot before the truck arrives, because the freight carrier has limits on where it will place the crate, and you will want a clear path from the curb to the place where the tub will rest.
Inspect the Tub Before It Goes into Storage
Because there is no installation deadline, the delivery inspection matters more, not less. A tub that sits in a garage for months cannot be inspected retroactively, so do the checks while the 48-hour window is open:
- Before the driver leaves, open the crate, look over the shell, door and fixtures, and note anything unusual on the delivery paperwork.
- Within 48 hours of receipt, complete both a visual check and an operational one wherever possible.
- Keep every piece of packaging material.
- If you find damage or missing parts, report it within the 48 hours through ellasbubbles.com/support or by calling (800) 480-6850.
One thing you do not need to report: the inside of the brass fill spout can look dark or mottled even while it is still in its shrink wrap. That is the natural color of rough, unpolished brass, not a sign that humidity reached the part while it sat waiting for installation, as covered in Why Does the Inside of My New Fill Spout Look Discolored or Oxidized?.
The Alternative: Leave the Tub at the Ella Dock
If you have no dry, warm place for the tub, if roofing or other exterior work has to finish first, or if your contractor's start date is not set, Ella's Bubbles can hold your tub at its dock at no charge and ship it when your bathroom is ready. The hold applies to a completed, paid order, not to a proposal you have not yet accepted.
- Place and pay for your order, and tell your Ella dealer or the team at (800) 480-6850 your expected timing.
- Your unit is set aside for you, which also means a popular model does not sell out from under your project.
- The team follows up as your date approaches to ask whether you are ready for delivery.
- When you are ready, open a ticket at ellasbubbles.com/support or call, confirm the delivery address and any access details, and shipping is arranged from there.
The hold window is limited and is set for your order at the time you purchase, so ask for your window and note it. If your project slips beyond it, contact the team before the window ends rather than after, so your order stays in place and ships on a date that works. This knowledge base does not promise a processing, production or delivery timeframe; the team confirms current timing for your specific order.
Planning the Timing
- Order once your contractor has given you a realistic start date, then set the hold to end just before the tub is needed on site.
- If you plan to store the tub at home, schedule delivery as close to installation day as your storage space allows.
- Availability varies by model, door side and current stock, so confirm timing for a specific configuration with your Ella dealer or the team rather than assuming it will be available later.
