Does the Ella Shower Stall Come With a Door, and What Size Door Fits the Opening?

Ella shower stalls and shower kits ship without a door. You add a curtain, a sliding door or a pivot door of your choice. The side walls have wood built into the fiberglass, so a door frame or pivot hinges can be screwed straight into the stall without hunting for a stud behind it. Ella offers one door of its own, the Ella Duo sliding door, for the larger stall with its 55 3/4-inch inside opening. For the smaller stall, whose inside opening measures 44 3/4 inches, Ella does not offer a door, and you shop for a door made for a 45-inch opening.

What Ships with the Stall

Doors, curtains and curtain rods are not included with an Ella shower stall or kit. The specification drawing for your stall lists every dimension you need to shop for a door, so ask your Ella dealer or the team at (800) 480-6850 for it before you buy anything. The measurements that matter for a door are the inside width between the finished side walls and the inside height from the threshold to the top of the wall panels.

Inside Opening Sizes

• Larger stall: inside opening 55 3/4 inches wide.
• Smaller stall: inside opening 44 3/4 inches wide, which door makers treat as a 45-inch opening.

Measure your own stall after it is assembled and before you order a door, because the exact figure at the door line can shift slightly with how the walls are seated. Framed sliding doors are sold for a range of openings, so pick a door whose adjustment range brackets your measurement. Frameless and barn-style doors are usually sold for a nominal opening and rely on the header and side channels for adjustment, so confirm the maker's minimum and maximum opening against your measured width before buying.

The Ella Duo Sliding Door

The Ella Duo is the one door Ella offers for its stalls, a sliding door for the larger stall's 55 3/4-inch opening. It comes in three finishes, listed as S5570C in chrome, S5570BN in brushed nickel and S5570B in black. It is fitted after the stall is assembled and sealed. Fitting a Third-Party Sliding or Pivot Door

Any door built for your inside opening can be used. Because the side walls carry wood backing inside the fiberglass, the hinge side of a pivot door or the side channels of a sliding door can be screwed directly into the wall panel. Follow this order:

1. Assemble and seal the stall, then let the sealant cure before drilling.
2. Measure the inside width at the top, middle and bottom of the door line and the inside height, and use the smallest width when choosing a door.
3. Choose a door whose stated opening range covers your measurement, whether sliding, pivot or barn style.
4. Mark the hinge or channel screw positions on the side wall, drill pilot holes into the wood backing, and seal every screw hole with silicone before driving the screws.
5. Hang the door, check that it swings or slides clear of the valve and any grab bars, and seal the outside of the frame to the wall panels.
