Shower Bases and Walls: Roll-In, Seat, Custom Sizes, Thresholds and Wall Systems

Ella's Bubbles offers wheelchair roll-in shower bases and seat shower bases, along with acrylic wall systems for showers. Custom size bases are available too, with a choice of a 2-inch or 4-inch front threshold and a drain placed on the left, right or center. This page pulls those options together so you can picture the right shower before you talk with your Ella dealer.

Base Styles Available

Two base styles are offered: wheelchair roll-in shower bases and seat shower bases. For a side-by-side look at the standard base families, see shower base sizes and thresholds compared.

Custom Sizes

When a standard footprint does not suit your space, a custom size shower base can be made. One example is a base 45 inches wide by 60.75 inches long. Because a custom base has a tile flange, it works well in a shower where the walls will be tiled. Your Ella dealer or the team at (800) 480-6850 can confirm what can be made for your space, and the article on custom-size shower bases walks through how to request one.

Choosing a Front Threshold

The front threshold can be either 2 inches or 4 inches, and your choice changes how deep the basin is inside the shower.

  • A 4-inch threshold gives an inside basin depth of approximately 2 inches.
  • A 2-inch threshold gives an inside basin depth of approximately 0.25 inch.

Drain Location

Custom shower bases can have the drain on the left, on the right or in the center.

Wall Systems

Acrylic wall systems are available for showers. If you would rather tile, a custom base with its tile flange is made for that. To see color choices, shower wall sample binders are available, and they show the different colors. For related wall options, see wall panels and surrounds, and if you are fitting a walk-in tub into an alcove, see extension panels and filler kits.

Steps to Plan Your Shower

  1. Decide whether you need a roll-in base or a seat base.
  2. Measure your space and note the size you would like, including the length.
  3. Choose a 2-inch or 4-inch front threshold.
  4. Choose a left, right or center drain location.
  5. Choose acrylic wall panels, or plan for tile if you have a custom base with the tile flange.
  6. Share your choices with your Ella dealer or call (800) 480-6850.
