The Ella LayDown60 measures 60 inches long by 30 inches wide by 21 inches high, with a flat interior floor 46 inches long by 20 inches wide and a tempered glass door opening 19 5/8 inches wide. It ships in a crate 63 inches long, 33 inches wide and 29 inches high, weighs 160 pounds net and 220 pounds crated, and soaks 15 inches deep. Installing the LayDown Tubs, Part 1: Delivery, Placement, Leveling and the Glass Door (30x60 and 32x72) covers what to do with those figures on delivery day, and this page collects every dimension printed for the 30x60 and sets it beside the 32x72.
Overall Size, Height, Floor and Soaking Depth
The spec sheet prints the actual size as 60 inches long, 30 inches wide and 21 inches high. The technical drawing on the same sheet gives the overall length as 59 3/4 inches and the overall width as a full 30 inches, so plan the opening around the full 60 inch nominal length and measure the width of the alcove as carefully as the length. The 21 inch height is the whole tub, rim included. Laid-Down Walk-In Tub Dimensions and Fit suggests checking that figure against any window, shelf or fixture near the planned location, because the tub is only 21 inches tall and will sit below things a taller tub would hide. Inside, the bathing floor is 46 inches long and 20 inches wide, flat and textured for slip resistance, with no molded seat, so you lie at full length. The product video on this page shows the 30x60 and the 32x72 together and makes the depth point directly: these tubs soak 15 inches deep, compared with the standard 11 inches, and their straight, narrow sidewalls keep the bathing space wide where a standard tub's curved walls would narrow it.
The Glass Door Opening and Swing
The LayDown's signature is its tempered glass door in a brushed-finish aluminum frame, and the drawing gives it real numbers. The door opening is 19 5/8 inches wide, the glass panel itself is 16 1/2 inches wide, and the door swings inward through an arc of 115 degrees with 20 1/4 inches of clearance shown on the drawing. The door closes with a safety close handle, and the showroom walkthrough in LayDown Tubs on Video: 30x60 and 32x72 Walkthroughs, the Glass Door, the Drain and Where the Controls Are shows that handle snapping and locking into place, the chrome plate you see from the bathroom side, and the oversized gasket integrated into the stainless steel jamb rather than glued in. The threshold is low for stepping in. The owner's manual directs you to keep the door open when the tub is not in use, and Your LayDown Owner's Manual, Section by Section (30x60 and 32x72) maps that section and the rest of the 23-page manual, which covers both sizes in one file.
Crate Size, Weight and the Path into the House
Measure the route for the crate, not the tub. The LayDown60 ships at 63 inches long, 33 inches wide and 29 inches high, and the crated weight is 220 pounds against a net weight of 160 pounds. A LayDown crate is lower than a walk-in tub crate but still more than 5 feet long, so check every hallway turn and the bathroom doorway against 63 by 33 inches before the truck arrives. On delivery day, inspect the crate and carton before the driver leaves, photograph any damage and have it written on the delivery document, because damage must be recorded there for a claim to be processed. Freight damage claims must be filed within 48 hours of receipt, with all packaging saved and the tub inspected for concealed damage, both visual and operational. Then remove all access panels and toe kick plates before carrying, lift and carry only by the stainless steel frame, never by the plumbing, and keep the shell's sides and bottom clear of bumps where jets can break off.
LayDown60 Beside LayDown72
| Measurement | LayDown60 (30x60) | LayDown72 (32x72) | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|---|
| Actual size | 60 inches long by 30 inches wide by 21 inches high | 71 3/4 inches long by 32 inches wide on the drawing; 21 inches high | The 72 is longer and wider, so measure the alcove width as carefully as the length |
| Interior floor | 46 inches long by 20 inches wide | 56 inches long by 22 1/2 inches wide | The 72 adds lying length and width for a taller bather |
| Glass door opening | 19 5/8 inches wide | 19 5/8 inches wide | Same step-in width on both sizes |
| Soaking depth | 15 inches | 15 inches | Both soak deeper than the standard 11 inch tub |
| Shipping crate | 63 by 33 by 29 inches | Not printed | Do not estimate the 72's crate from the 60 |
| Net and shipping weight | 160 pounds net, 220 pounds crated | Not printed | Two people and a clear path for the 60; ask the team for the 72 |
| Drain | One 2 inch brass drain with overflow, left or right | 2 3/4 inch drain hole, left or right drain | Both are single-drain tubs ordered by drain side |
What the differences mean: the two LayDown tubs share the same door opening, the same soaking depth and the same single-drain layout, so the choice between them is about the room and the bather. The 30x60 fits the footprint of a standard 60 inch bathtub, while the 72 needs a longer and wider opening and gives a longer, wider floor in return. Because the LayDown72 sheet is a drawing-only document, its crate size and weights are not printed anywhere, so ask your Ella dealer or the team at (800) 480-6850 for them rather than scaling up the 60's figures.
Drain, Faucet, Screen and What the Sheet Leaves Blank
The LayDown60 has one drain, not the dual drains of the seated Ella tubs: a 2 inch threaded brass floor drain with a copper overflow and a cable-operated drain opener, ordered as a left-drain or right-drain tub. The visible drain opener and cover are chrome only. The manual notes that the drain connection direction is optional and that fewer turns drain faster, so have your plumber verify the house drain location before the tub is set. The LayDown60 does not include a faucet and has no factory faucet option; it is designed for a pre-existing or new wall-mounted faucet that you supply, and the product video's line about choosing a 5-piece or 2-piece faucet set is superseded for this size. The spec sheet prints the unoccupied water capacity field but leaves the gallon figure blank, so no capacity number is quoted here. If the optional glass shower screen is installed, the top-view drawing shows it spanning 38 1/4 inches in a 21 inch and a 17 inch segment with a 1/4 inch gap, standing 57 to 57 1/2 inches high over a 20 1/4 inch base depth. And if an older brochure cover in your paperwork prints a shorter length for the 30x60, that is a known cover misprint: the tub is 30 inches wide and 60 inches long, and the spec sheet and the labeled diagram explained in Where Everything Is on a LayDown Tub: The Brochure Callout Diagram Explained (32x72 Shown With Air Massage) are the references.
