Are the LayDown60 Overflow and Drain Available in Brushed Nickel?

No. The LayDown60 drain and overflow are not offered in brushed nickel. The tub uses a single 2 inch brass drain with overflow, and the visible drain opener and cover come in chrome only, as does the rest of the hardware across Ella tubs. The faucet set is the only item offered in other finishes, and because the LayDown60 needs a wall-mounted faucet you supply, that faucet is where a brushed nickel look comes from; the tub itself is profiled in What Is the Ella LayDown60 30x60 Walk-In Tub and Its Drain?.

Finish by Component on the LayDown60

Finish questions on this tub are easiest to answer piece by piece, because the LayDown60 mixes three looks: brushed aluminum on the door frame, chrome on the hardware, and whatever finish you choose for the wall-mounted faucet. The table uses only figures printed on the current LayDown60 spec sheet and in Ella's published articles.

What the table means in practice: the LayDown60 will always carry chrome at the drain and overflow and on its controls, together with a brushed aluminum door frame, and the faucet on the wall is the only element you can specify in brushed nickel. Plan the look around that combination rather than expecting the tub hardware to change.

Why the Drain Is Brass with a Chrome Opener

The LayDown family is the one Ella line with a single drain rather than the dual drains found on the seated tubs. The spec sheet lists a 2 inch brass drain with overflow, and the published description is a cable operated drain opener, a copper overflow and a 2 inch threaded brass drain worked by a large, easy to turn control that empties the oversized drain quickly. The brass and copper are the working parts inside the tub; the pieces you see and touch, the opener and the cover, are chrome. Ella does not plate those visible parts in brushed nickel for any model, and the grab bars, door handle and trim, jet trim and push buttons follow the same chrome rule across the line.

If you ever need drain parts, tell your Ella dealer or the team at (800) 480-6850 that the tub is a LayDown so the brass drain parts are matched rather than a dual-drain kit. The owner's manual notes that the drain connection direction is optional, that fewer turns in the drain run mean faster drainage, and that the house drain should be verified before the tub is connected. Those installation details are in Installing the LayDown Tubs, Part 2.

Where the Brushed Nickel Comes from: The Wall-Mounted Faucet

The LayDown60 is never sold with a factory faucet and has no faucet option of its own. The spec sheet states that a pre-existing or new wall-mounted faucet must be used, which is exactly why the faucet is the finish decision on this tub. Ella's own wall-mounted option is the Ella Waterfall Bathtub Faucet, a brass set offered in matte black, chrome and brushed nickel. It includes a double-handle hot and cold body cast from A-grade brass with a ceramic cartridge, a slider bar with a 304 stainless steel tube and 24 inch slide travel, two stainless steel hoses each about 59 inches long, an extendable multi-function hand shower with four spray settings in a holder that adjusts up and down and side to side, a shower diverter valve, brass connectors, wall mounts, decorative cover plates and a hex key. Its rated flow is about 10.5 gallons per minute. The comparison with Ella's deck-mounted sets is in Which waterfall faucet is best for a walk-in bathtub?, and the finish guidance is in Where Can I Find a Sleek Wall-Mounted Bathtub Faucet for My Tub?.

Because the faucet is fed from inside the wall, it is roughed in before the walls close. Settle the finish and the faucet position before the plumber opens the wall, since the LayDown60 is set first and the wall is finished around it. The larger LayDown72 works differently: it is faucet-ready, and an Ella two-piece or five-piece deck-mount fast-fill faucet can be added as an option when the tub is ordered, so ask the team to confirm which finishes are available for that deck set if you are choosing between sizes.

How the Finishes Read Together in the Bathroom

Ella's rule of thumb for faucet finishes applies here with one twist. Chrome gives the most uniform look because it matches the tub's own hardware. Brushed nickel suits a bathroom already built around brushed nickel fixtures, and on the LayDown60 it also sits comfortably beside the brushed-finish aluminum door frame. Matte black suits a bathroom designed around black accents, where the faucet is meant to stand out from the chrome on the tub. Whichever you choose, the chrome drain opener and overflow cover remain, and so does the chrome locking handle on the door. Clean any of the finishes with mild soap and water.

The rest of the tub is a gloss white acrylic shell reinforced with fiberglass gelcoat on a stainless steel frame with adjustable leveling legs, measuring 60 inches long, 30 inches wide and 21 inches high, with a 46 by 20 inch interior floor and a 15 inch soaking depth. The sizes and the door are described in What is the Ella LayDown walk-in bathtub and which sizes are available?. If your bathroom plan depends on matching metals, the brushed aluminum frame and the chrome handle are the two fixed finishes to design around, and the faucet is the variable.

Common Questions

Can I order the LayDown60 drain opener in brushed nickel?
No. The visible drain opener and cover on the LayDown60 come in chrome only, and Ella does not offer the drain or overflow in brushed nickel on any tub. The faucet set is the only item offered in other finishes.
What finish is the overflow cover on the LayDown60?
Chrome. The overflow is part of the 2 inch brass drain with overflow, with a copper overflow inside the tub, and the visible cover is chrome. It is not available in brushed nickel.
How do I get a brushed nickel look on a LayDown60 tub?
Through the wall-mounted faucet you supply, since the LayDown60 has no faucet option and the spec sheet requires a pre-existing or new wall-mounted faucet. The Ella Waterfall Bathtub Faucet is offered in brushed nickel, along with matte black and chrome, and sits alongside the chrome tub hardware and the brushed aluminum door frame.
Is the LayDown60 door frame brushed nickel or brushed aluminum?
The door is a tempered glass panel in a brushed-finish aluminum frame with a chrome locking handle. It swings inward through a 115 degree arc with a 19 5/8 inch opening. The brushed look on the door comes from the aluminum frame, not from nickel plating.
What should I tell the team when ordering LayDown drain parts?
Say that the tub is a LayDown so the single 2 inch brass drain parts are matched rather than a dual-drain kit. The replacement opener and cover will be chrome. Reach your Ella dealer or the team at (800) 480-6850, or open a ticket at ellasbubbles.com/support.
