Which Ella Fixtures and Hardware Come in a Black Finish?

On an Ella walk-in tub, the faucet is the only part offered in a black finish: matte black has been offered on the Fast-Fill faucet set, and the wall-mounted waterfall faucet comes in chrome, brushed nickel or matte black as availability allows. Everything else on the tub stays chrome, including the grab bars, door hardware, drain openers and covers, push buttons and jet trim, as summarized in Tub Colors and Hardware Finishes: White Only, Chrome Trim, and Faucet Upgrades. For the rest of the bathroom, Ella lists a 24 and 36 inch wall grab bar in matte black, shower trim kits in matte black, and a 55 by 39 inch frameless bi-fold tub door in a black finish.

Black, Item by Item

The table sorts every item people ask about into what can be black and what cannot. Every finish listed comes from Ella's published finish lists.

What the table means: a black bathroom is possible around an Ella tub, but not on it. The faucet is the single black element the tub itself can carry, while the bars, handles, drain hardware and jet trim will read as chrome whatever else you choose. Most customers who want a uniform look keep chrome on the faucet for that reason. Customers set on black put it on the faucet, the wall bar, the shower trim and the door.

Why the Tub Hardware Stays Chrome

The grab bar is the item people most want in black, and it is the clearest no. Your tub ships with the chrome deck-mount grab bar matched to your model, and Ella does not factory-install a bar supplied by a customer, dealer or third party, because the factory cannot know how an untested bar will sit against the acrylic shell or warranty a part it did not make. The same rule covers the door handle and trim, drain openers and covers, jet trim, push buttons and towel bar, all chrome only. Oil-rubbed bronze and polished brass are not made for jets or grab bars either, and the word brass on an Ella parts list refers to the metal under the chrome plating or to the Huntington Brass brand name, as explained in Can I get brass fixtures on my walk-in tub, and which parts change finish?.

There is one path to a black grab bar on the deck, and it runs through your installer rather than the factory. The deck bar fastens through two holes placed in the acrylic at the factory, and a replacement has to match that hole spacing exactly. Your installer can remove the factory bar, keep its washers and mount a black bar with a watertight seal at each fastener, but only before the tub is installed. Can Ella Factory-Install a Grab Bar From Another Supplier? covers the steps and the warranty consequence: replacing the factory bar is a modification by someone other than Ella, so the new bar carries only its maker's warranty, and a leak or shell damage at those holes is not covered.

Getting a Black Faucet on Your Tub

Faucet finish is chosen at order time, along with door hand, therapy package and the other options listed in What Can and Cannot Be Customized on an Ella Tub. Black and gold have been offered on some Fast-Fill sets at times, so availability is handled case by case, and your Ella dealer or the team at (800) 480-6850 should confirm the finish before the order is placed. The waterfall wall-mount faucet is the steadier choice for black, since matte black is one of its three listed finishes. The video on this page shows the waterfall faucet, its extendable multi-function hand shower resting on an adjustable shower column, and the three finishes, chrome, brushed nickel and matte black.

Two other routes exist. A tub can be requested at order time with no deck holes as a special order, so you can supply a faucet of your own in black, and the wall-mounted waterfall faucet suits exactly that tub. The LayDown60 never ships with a faucet and requires a wall-mounted faucet you supply, so on that model the faucet on the wall is where a black or brushed nickel look comes from, while its drain and overflow stay chrome, as described in Are the LayDown60 Overflow and Drain Available in Brushed Nickel?.

Before You Order

  1. Decide whether black on the faucet alone is enough, knowing the bars, handles, drain hardware and jet trim will be chrome.
  2. Choose the 5-piece Fast-Fill set or the waterfall wall-mount faucet, and ask your Ella dealer or the team at (800) 480-6850 to confirm matte black is available on that set for your order.
  3. If you want a black deck grab bar, source a bar whose hole spacing matches the factory holes, confirm the fit with a photo of the mounting from the team, and have your installer swap it before the tub goes in.
  4. Add the 24 or 36 inch matte black wall grab bar, matte black shower trim and the 55 by 39 inch bi-fold door in black for the rest of the room.
  5. Expect the tub shell to be white only. No color options exist on any current Ella tub, base or wall kit.

Common Questions

Can I get black grab bars on the tub deck from the factory?
No. The deck grab bar ships in chrome only, and Ella does not factory-install bars from another supplier. Your installer can swap in a black bar that matches the factory hole spacing exactly, but only before the tub is installed.
Is the Ella waterfall faucet available in matte black?
Yes. The wall-mounted waterfall faucet comes in chrome, brushed nickel or matte black, as availability allows. Confirm the finish with your Ella dealer or the team at (800) 480-6850 when you order.
Do the drain opener and overflow cover come in black?
No. Drain openers and covers are chrome only on every Ella tub, including the LayDown60. The faucet is the only part of the tub offered in another finish.
Does Ella offer a black shower door or tub door?
Ella lists a 55 by 39 inch frameless bi-fold tub door in a black finish. The 4-fold glass screen for walk-in tubs has a chrome ionized aluminum frame and is not offered in black.
Can the tub itself be ordered in black or another color?
No. Every current Ella walk-in tub, LayDown tub, shower base and wall kit is white, and the shell is solid gloss white acrylic. Only the faucet finish changes.
Will swapping the grab bar for a black one affect my warranty?
Yes. Ella's published warranty excludes modifications made by anyone other than Ella's Bubbles, and a replaced grab bar is that kind of modification. The new bar carries only its maker's warranty, and a leak or shell damage at the mounting holes caused by the swap is not covered.
