Which Ella walk-in tub has the strongest jet massage pressure?

Ella does not publish a pressure ranking for its jetted tubs, and the tub with the biggest pump is not automatically the one with the strongest massage. Ella fits the hydro pump to the tub family: the standard hydro pump on the single-seat tubs, a larger pump on the two-seat tubs and the largest pump, called the Hercules, on the Big4Two, with each pump chosen for the volume of water and the number of jets it has to move. How Ella Sizes the Pump to the Tub

Jet pressure comes from the pump, and each pump is matched to the tub it drives. The single-seat tubs use the standard hydro pump. The two-seat tubs, which have more jets and a larger shell, use a medium pump. The Big4Two, the largest tub in the lineup, uses the Hercules pump. A larger pump pushes more water through the same jets and lines, so the jet count, hose sizes and electrical supply of the smaller tubs are matched to the standard pump rather than left with headroom for a bigger one.

The Ella Standard is a useful reference point for the standard hydro package. It ships with 18 hydro jets driven by an 8.1-amp, 900-watt pump, with a 6-amp, 650-watt in-line heater and a push control with an intensity dial. The pump ratings for any model are printed on its current spec sheet and on the pump label itself, and those printed figures are the ones to rely on. Ella has changed hydro pumps several times over the years, so the model name alone does not tell the team which pump an installed tub has.

What Actually Sets the Pressure You Feel

• The intensity dial. Every hydro tub has one on the deck. Turning it up mixes air into the jet stream for a stronger massage; turning it down removes that air for a gentler flow, all the way to where the massage is barely noticeable. This dial, not the pump, is the everyday pressure control.
• Water level. Fill to 2 inches above the highest jets before starting the hydro system so the jets push through water instead of spraying. A low water level makes jets spray rather than massage.
• Foot jet nozzles. Foot jets have a center nozzle that turns like a valve, so each one can be opened or closed down individually. If a nozzle is hard to turn, the butterfly handles behind the jet are loosened to free it and the jet nut is tightened afterward so the nozzle stays put.
• Air speed. On three-speed air controls the first press is high, the second is medium, the third is low and a fourth press turns the system off.
• Seating position. Where you sit relative to the back jets changes how much push you feel, so shifting your position is a legitimate adjustment.

Why Independent Pumps Matter More Than Pump Size

Some walk-in tubs use a small plastic diverter on the front of the tub to split one pump between the back jets and the foot jets: spinning that control takes volume away from the back to send it to the feet, and vice versa. Can You Order More Pressure Than Standard?

A larger-than-standard pump on a single-seat tub is not a menu choice. Any request to fit one has to be approved by the factory before an order is changed, because the smaller tubs were not designed around it. If the answer is no, that is a design limit, not reluctance. The upgrade conversation also has to include your electrician. A higher-amperage hydro pump draws more current, adding an independent foot massage adds a second hydro pump, and on the full air, hydro and hydro foot packages the requirement moves from two dedicated lines to three dedicated 20-amp lines. The microbubble circuit needs its own dedicated line as well. The extra circuit must be in place before the tub is installed.
