What Do I Do If My Walk-In Tub Jets Are Too Strong?

If your jets are too strong, or the back jets push you forward, the first thing to reach for is the intensity dial on the deck. Every hydro tub has one, and turning it down removes air from the jet stream for a gentler flow, all the way down to where the massage is barely noticeable. For the air massage, the fix is the press sequence: the first press is high, the second is medium and the third is low, so pressing to the third setting gives the softest bubbles. Foot jets have their own adjustment, a center nozzle that turns like a valve. Between the dial, the low air speed and the nozzles, almost every owner finds a comfortable level. What cannot be done is permanently closing off individual jets, because removing an air jet lets air escape from the system.

Likely Causes

  • The intensity dial is turned up, mixing air into the hydro stream. The jet and intensity dial guide shows how it works.
  • The air massage is on high, which is the first press rather than the last.
  • Foot jet center nozzles are fully open, or the water level is low so the jets spray rather than push through water.

What to Check, in Order

  1. Turn the intensity dial down. Turn it slowly toward the lower setting while the hydro runs and feel the change; at its lowest the flow is very gentle.
  2. If you cannot get the hydro dial to move, do not force it. A stiff dial is covered in the dial adjustment guide, and the team can confirm from photos whether it needs attention.
  3. For air jets that are too strong in the seat or between the legs, press the air button to the third speed, which is low. The hydro versus air controls guide explains the sequence for push buttons and the touchpad.
  4. Adjust the foot jets by turning the center nozzle of each jet, which is a valve. If a nozzle is too hard to turn, loosen the butterfly handles behind the jet to free it, then tighten the jet nut so the nozzle stays put.
  5. Fill to 2 inches above the highest jets before starting the hydro so the jets push through water instead of spraying, and adjust your seating position; the bidet and air jet positions guide shows where each jet sits.

When to Open a Ticket

If the dial will not turn at all or a foot jet nozzle stays seized after the butterfly handles are loosened, open a ticket at ellasbubbles.com/support or call your Ella dealer or the team at (800) 480-6850. Include your serial number and a photo of the dial or the jet in question so the team can confirm the cause.

As the video shows, foot jet pressure is set by turning the center nozzle, and lining up the valve's half cut opening with the water hole confirms it is fully open before the jet nut is tightened.

Common Questions

Can I close off some of the jets or disable the jets between the legs?
Individual jets cannot be permanently removed without losing air from the system. Use the low air speed, the intensity dial and the foot nozzles to bring the strength down instead.
Can I put a pillow over the seat air jets?
Covering the jets is not something Ella recommends, since the air system is designed to flow freely through every jet. Press the air to the third speed, which is low, and if the seat jets still feel too strong ask your Ella dealer or the team at (800) 480-6850 for advice on your model.
How do I turn the bubble pressure down?
On push controls, press the air button until you reach the third speed, which is low. On the digital touchpad, use the minus key to lower the intensity.
Why do the back jets push me forward?
That is the hydro stream with air mixed in. Turn the intensity dial down and the push eases noticeably; at its lowest setting the jets are barely felt.
