Which Pan to Ask for

The table below sets out the base options that appear on Ella's current pages. All of Ella's own pans are finished acrylic, and the roll-in versions are ADA curb-less pans that a wheelchair can roll straight into.

What the differences mean for your bathroom: if one of the three standard sizes fits, it is the simplest purchase, because the drain sits in a set position for that size and you only have to tell the team whether your drain line is on the left or right. A custom base exists for the space a standard size will not fit, and the team asks whether you have a three-wall alcove or a corner so the drain and edges are placed correctly. Only rectangular sizes are made, so a space that needs angled or curved edges is not a fit for an Ella base. A request larger than the maximum, such as 53 by 76 inches, cannot be produced, while a 38 by 80 inch base with a left drain and a 58 by 30 inch base with a center drain are both within the limits. What to Have Ready Before You Call

The order goes faster, and the pan arrives ready to set, when you can give the team these details:

• The finished opening, measured after the walls are finished rather than at the framing. Ella pans are built to size at the factory and are not cut on site, so the number you give is the pan you receive.
• Where your existing drain line sits in the floor. Tell the team its position and it confirms which drain position matches your size. On a custom base the drain can be left, right or center but must sit at least 9 inches from each wall; a drain only 7 inches from the threshold edge is not possible even on a custom pan.
• The layout, either a three-wall alcove or a corner, since custom bases are made for both.
• The threshold you want. A custom shower base typically has a threshold of about 3 inches, and zero threshold bases sit flush with the surrounding floor for a barrier free entry. Roll-in and barrier-free bases ship with a self-adhesive collapsible rubber dam.
• A simple drawing if the installation is on a concrete slab with no access from below or the existing drain is in an unusual spot. Open a ticket with the walls, the size you want and the drain location, and the team confirms whether a base can be made to match and what drain hardware ships with it.

What Ships with the Base and What Is Separate

The base is sold on its own and arrives as finished acrylic. It does not need to be tiled over, and it is ready to use once installed; your contractor sets the base, connects the drain and finishes the walls around it. Everything above the pan is a separate purchase. Ella's wall options for the space include plain white acrylic panels 98 inches high, a CNC engraved pattern in acrylic, and a marble-look three-piece panel kit, and cultured marble panels can be trimmed on site for a custom fit. Grab bars and a shower door are ordered as accessories. Complete multi-piece shower kits are the exception, because they use their own pans, such as the 60 by 33 inch three-piece low-threshold kit with a molded seat. The video on this page presents Ella's cultured marble shower bases. They are molded solid cultured marble with a glossy gel coat finish and an ADA compliant slip resistant textured floor, offered in three sizes, and they are heavy, so the video asks for at least two people to install them. That weight is the practical difference from the acrylic pans when you are planning who sets the base.
