What Is the HomeCare Transfer Bathtub?

The HomeCare Transfer Bathtub, model HC3260L or HC3260R and often called the HomeCare 32x60 or the tank tub, is Ella's assisted-bathing tub with an 80 gallon internal tank that pre-heats water so the tub fills in about 90 seconds after the bather is seated. It is designed for caregiver-supervised bathing only, never for self-bathing, so the bather is not left sitting in an empty tub while it slowly fills.

The 27 inch aluminum door swings 180 degrees so a caregiver can transfer the bather from a wheelchair.

How It Works

The caregiver sets the temperature and the tank fills to the set level while the bather is being prepared. The bather is transferred through the aluminum outward-swing door, which has two latches, is 27 inches wide and swings 180 degrees within a 103 3/4 inch clearance envelope. With the door closed, the fill (injection) button moves the pre-heated water into the tub in about 90 seconds. Tank filling and injection can never run at the same time; starting one disables the other. The tub drains in about 150 seconds and the tank refills in about 11 minutes for the next bath. The system shuts itself off after 1 hour, and one hour after it is off a drain solenoid empties any water left in the tank, so a tank that drains itself is normal. Hydro massage comes from 8 jets, 6 on the back and 2 at the feet, driven by a 9A 900W pump with a digital controller.

Which Ella Models Have It

The pre-heated tank is unique to the HomeCare 32x60 (Model profile). Its actual size is 31 1/2 inches wide, 41 3/8 inches high and 59 7/8 inches long, and it holds 78 gallons unoccupied and 35 to 55 gallons occupied. How it sits between a Transfer tub and the HoistAssist and CareGiver systems is laid out in assisted bathing options compared.

What to Know as an Owner

There are two power cords: the grey cord powers the tank and the black cord powers the hydro pump, and both go to a 20A dedicated GFCI circuit. The front legs must be screwed into the subfloor and every leg must carry weight, as the leveling guide explains. Your installer should follow the HomeCare 32x60 installation steps, which cover the faucet spout through the deck, the tank drain tee, the supply lines and the sensor logic to test before leaving. If the tank will not fill or inject, start with HomeCare troubleshooting, which explains the keypad lights. For a ticket at ellasbubbles.com/support or (800) 480-6850, have the serial number, note which keypad light is lit, and describe whether the tank was filling when the problem started.

Common Questions

What is the Ella HomeCare tub?
It is an assisted-bathing walk-in tub, model HC3260L or HC3260R, with an 80 gallon internal tank that pre-heats water so the tub fills in about 90 seconds after the bather is seated. It is for caregiver-supervised bathing only.
Can a bather use the HomeCare alone?
No. The HomeCare is designed exclusively for assisted bathing under the supervision of a caregiver or trained professional, never for self-bathing.
Why does the HomeCare tank drain by itself?
That is by design. The system shuts off after 1 hour, and one hour after that a drain solenoid empties any water left in the tank so it never sits stale.
Why will the tank not fill or inject?
Tank filling and injection never run at the same time, so one is locked out while the other is active, and fill works only when the tank level is above the mid-water sensor. Check the keypad light, wait for the tank to reach level, and see the HomeCare troubleshooting article if it still will not inject.
Why are there two power cords on the HomeCare?
The grey cord powers the tank system and the black cord powers the hydro pump. Both connect to a 20 amp dedicated GFCI circuit.
