Heated Seat and Back: How It Works, Which Tubs Offer It, and How to Add It to Your Order

Updated September 2026

Yes. The heated seat and back is an optional upgrade offered on every Ella sit-down walk-in tub, including the two-seat Companion and the wheelchair-accessible Transfer family up to the TransferXXL. It is chosen when you place your order, so ask your Ella dealer or the team at (800) 480-6850 to include it before your order is finalized. If you already own an Ella tub, see can I add jets or a heated seat to my tub later for what is possible after delivery.

How the Heated Seat and Back Works

The upgrade warms the seat and the backrest surfaces so the acrylic is comfortable to the touch when you sit down. It is meant to take the initial chill off the tub while you wait for it to fill, which is the moment most bathers feel cold.

  1. Press the heater button 5 to 10 minutes before you get in. This gives the seat and backrest surfaces time to warm up.
  2. Enter the tub, close the door and start filling as usual.
  3. The system shuts itself off automatically after a preset time, so you do not need to remember to turn it off. The same button turns it off sooner if you do not want it.

Heated Seat Versus In-Line Water Heater

These are two separate options and are easy to confuse. The in-line heater is part of a hydro massage package and helps maintain the temperature of the bath water as it circulates through the jets. It does not warm the seat. The heated seat and back is listed as its own add-on, so if you want it, make sure it appears on your order confirmation. The therapy options overview explains what each package includes.

Which Tubs Can Have It

Every sit-down Ella walk-in tub offers the heated seat and back as an upgrade. It pairs with any therapy package, including microbubble, and it is available on the TransferXXL as well as the smaller Transfer models. The two-seat Companion can be ordered with the heated seat and backrest as well. The lay-down models are a different design, so ask the team directly if you are considering a LayDown and want warmth while the tub fills.

Electrical Planning

The heated seat and back is an electrical option. Have your electrician review the specification sheet for your exact configuration when planning the dedicated circuit, and ask the team to confirm the requirement for the combination of options on your order.

If the Seat Does Not Warm

Preheat for the full 10 minutes before judging it. If the seat or backrest still stays cold, work through why isn't my heated seat working and open a ticket with your serial number if the problem continues. The serial number is on the label behind the magnetic access panel next to the door.

Common Questions

Can the heated seat be turned off when I do not want it?
Yes. The heater button turns it on and off, and the system also shuts itself off automatically after a preset time. If you never press the button, the seat simply stays at room temperature.
Does the heated seat keep the bath water warm?
No. It warms the seat and backrest surfaces so the tub is comfortable while it fills. Keeping the bath water warm during hydro massage is the job of the in-line heater that comes with a hydro package.
Is the heated seat available on the Companion two-seat tub?
Yes. The Companion can be ordered with the heated seat and backrest option. Tell your Ella dealer or the team that you want it when you place your order.
Is the heated seat available with microbubble therapy?
Yes. The heated seat and back pairs with any therapy package, including microbubble, on sit-down tubs such as the TransferXXL. It is listed as a separate add-on on your order.
How long should I preheat the seat before getting in?
Press the heater button 5 to 10 minutes before you enter the tub. That gives the seat and backrest surfaces time to warm so the acrylic is not cold to the touch.
