What size pump does the Ella Elite use with each therapy package?

Updated October 2026

The Ella Elite uses a separate pump for each therapy system rather than one shared pump, and the current spec sheet rates each of them in amps: the hydro massage pump draws 5 to 7 amps, the three-speed air massage pump draws 6.4 amps, and the microbubble pump is a 1 HP unit drawing 7.3 amps. Whenever hydro is part of the package, a 5.5 amp, 650 watt in-line water heater runs alongside the hydro pump, and the independent foot massage package adds a second hydro pump rated the same 5 to 7 amps. The model as a whole is covered in Ella Elite 30x52: Specs, Packages, Jets, and Fit; this page sets out what sits under the seat for each package so you and your electrician can plan around it.

Pump and Heater Figures by Package

The spec sheet lists five ways to build an Elite, from a plain soaking tub to a dual massage package. The table collects the published pump, heater and jet figures for each one. Every number comes from the current Elite spec sheet, and where the sheet gives no figure the cell says so.

PackagePumps and drawIn-line heaterJetsWhat it means for you

Hydro + Hydro Independent Foot MassageTwo hydro pumps, each 5 to 7A5.5A, 650W16 hydro jets (10 seat, 6 foot), two intensity dialsSeat and foot jets run from separate pumps; the published guide lists two dedicated lines
Air + HydroOne hydro pump, 5 to 7A, plus one air pump, 6.4A5.5A, 650W16 hydro jets (10 seat, 6 foot) plus 16 air jets (8 seat, 8 foot)Two different sensations from two pumps; the published guide lists one dedicated line
Hydro + MicrobubbleOne hydro pump, 5 to 7A, plus one 1 HP microbubble pump, 7.3A5.5A, 650W16 hydro jets (10 seat, 6 foot) plus the microbubble systemPairs the microbubble pump with hydro; the published guide lists two dedicated lines

What the differences mean: a hydro-only Elite has one pump and the heater, so it is the lightest electrical build among the jetted packages. Air + Hydro adds a second pump, yet the published Elite guide still lists it with a single dedicated line, while the two packages that pair hydro with a second hydro pump or with the microbubble pump are listed with two lines. The microbubble pump is the only one on the sheet given a horsepower figure, 1 HP, and the hydro and air pumps are rated by amperage only. A soaking Elite has no pump at all, which is why it is the choice for bathers who want the door, the seat and the low threshold without any wiring.

What Each Pump Does on the Elite

  • Hydro massage pump, 5 to 7A. It feeds the 16 hydro jets, 10 in the seat area and 6 at the feet, and is switched by an on/off push control. An intensity dial air control lets you adjust the feel of the jets, and ozone sterilization rated 0.04A runs with the hydro system. The in-line water heater, 5.5A and 650W, maintains the water temperature while the pump is running.
  • Second hydro pump for independent foot massage, 5 to 7A. On the Hydro + Hydro Independent Foot Massage package a second pump of the same rating takes over the foot jets, and each pump gets its own intensity dial, so the back and foot massage can be set differently.
  • Air massage pump, 6.4A. This is the three-speed pump behind the 16 air jets, 8 in the seat and 8 at the feet. It has its own on/off push control and an automatic Auto Purge that activates about 20 minutes after the pump is turned off and runs for 120 seconds to blow residual water out of the air lines. Auto Purge is fully automatic and cannot be stopped, and it is normal even if it starts while you are still in the tub.
  • Microbubble pump, 1 HP, 7.3A. It works with a pressure vessel and an agitator valve and is switched by a single on/off push control. Microbubble therapy fills the water with billions of tiny oxygen-rich bubbles released through a single jet.
  • LED chromatherapy light, 0.5A. It is included with the dual packages, Air + Hydro, Hydro + Microbubble and Hydro + Hydro Foot, and is not part of the hydro-only or soaking builds.

Why the Elite Is a Two-System Tub

Every therapy on an Ella tub gets its own pump under the seat. Ella does not use a diverter to split one pump between systems, which is why the figures above are listed separately for each one. The trade-off is space: a compact 52 inch frame like the Elite carries two systems, while larger frames such as the Royal, the Monaco and the Transfer32 can carry three. The Elite spec sheet lists Air + Hydro, Hydro + Hydro Independent Foot Massage, Hydro + Microbubble, Hydro Massage and Soaking, and no triple package. A published Air + Hydro + Foot schematic does name the Elite among its models, but space is tight on 52 inch tubs, so any three-system build should be confirmed with your Ella dealer or the team at (800) 480-6850 before it is planned. The menu for every model is in Which Therapy Combinations Fit Which Tub, and if air, hydro and microbubble together are a must, Do Any 30x52 Walk-In Tubs Offer Air, Hydro and Microbubble Therapy Together? explains which models the team points to instead.

Planning the Electrical

The spec sheet calls for dedicated GFCI protected electrical lines at 110/120V for the therapy systems. The published Elite guide lists one 20A line for Hydro or Air + Hydro and two lines for Hydro + Microbubble, Hydro + Foot, or a heated seat, and your electrician confirms the count against the schematic for the package on your order. Two optional items can also be added: the heated seat and backrest and a digital controller. On a soaking tub the heated seat is the only electrical item, and the published schematic calls for a 15A 120V GFCI protected line for the heater alone; Soaking-Only Walk-In Tubs covers that build. Two more points matter before you buy breakers or wire:

  1. The spec sheet carries a disclaimer that the amp value for each pump may change based on availability, so verify the current figures with your Ella dealer or the team at (800) 480-6850 before purchase.
  2. The Elite spec sheet is available under the Downloads tab on the Elite product page; choose Left or Right under Door & Drain Position to download the drawing for your hand, and share the PDF with your electrician and plumber before installation day.

Ella does not send technicians. A local licensed electrician runs the lines, and the team can answer that person's questions by phone or email.

Common Questions

Does the Elite hydro pump have a horsepower rating on the spec sheet?
No. The Elite spec sheet rates the hydro massage pump at 5 to 7 amps and gives no horsepower figure. The only pump listed in horsepower is the microbubble pump at 1 HP, which draws 7.3 amps. Because amp values can change with availability, confirm the current figure with the team before purchase.
Is the in-line heater on the Elite a separate pump?
No, the in-line water heater is part of the hydro system, not a pump of its own. It is rated 5.5 amps and 650 watts and maintains the water temperature while the hydro pump runs. It is included with every package that has hydro and is absent on a soaking tub.
Does the Elite air massage package have its own pump?
Yes. The air massage system on the Elite runs on its own three-speed pump rated 6.4 amps, separate from the hydro pump. It drives 16 air jets, 8 in the seat and 8 at the feet, and its Auto Purge cycle starts about 20 minutes after the pump is switched off and runs for 120 seconds.
How many dedicated electrical lines does an Elite need?
The published Elite guide lists one 20A dedicated GFCI protected line for Hydro or Air + Hydro, and two lines for Hydro + Microbubble, Hydro + Foot, or a heated seat. The spec sheet calls for dedicated GFCI protected lines at 110/120V. Your electrician confirms the count against the schematic for your package.
Can the Elite be ordered with air, hydro and microbubble together?
The Elite spec sheet lists two-system packages at most and no triple package. The 52 inch frame carries two systems, and the team names the Royal, the Monaco and the Transfer32 for bathers who want three. Confirm any three-system build with your Ella dealer or the team at (800) 480-6850.
Does a soaking Elite need any electrical connection at all?
A plain soaking Elite has no pumps and gravity drains, so it needs no outlet. If you add the optional heated seat and backrest, the published schematic calls for a 15A 120V GFCI protected line for the heater alone.
