Why Do My Air Jets Not Work Even Though the Auto Purge Still Runs?

If your air jets stopped working but the purge still runs, the blower and its power are alive, so the fault is almost always the push button air hose or the control box input rather than a burned out air compressor. The auto purge is the control box firing the blower on its own after a bath, which proves the blower spins and the circuit is live. When the air button does nothing during a bath but the blowout after use works, the signal from the button is not reaching the box: the thin air hose has come off at one end, or the button is not sending a clean puff. The first thing to check is that hose, pushed firmly onto the control box nipple and secured at the button with its lock nut. The port map and button repair are in push button air hoses, ports and replacement.

Likely Causes

  • The air button hose has slipped off the control box nipple or the button nipple.
  • The lock nut at the button has loosened, so the button leaks air instead of sending a signal.
  • The tub is sitting in the low speed step of the cycle and feels dead.
  • A pulse of air trapped in the hose is blocking the relay.
  • The control box input has failed, which the team confirms after the hose checks.

What to Check, in Order

  1. Press the air button slowly through the cycle. The first press is high speed, the second medium, the third low and the fourth turns the system off, so a tub left in the low step can seem to do nothing. Press until it is clearly off, then start again.
  2. Remove the front access panel and find the hose from the air button at the control box, on the port labeled for the air system. Push it firmly onto the nipple with a twist and push.
  3. Pry off the chrome ring and button, pull out the black bellows, and confirm the hose is on its nipple with the lock nut snug. Refit everything.
  4. Press the button with the panel open and listen for an audible relay click at the box. A click with no blower means the box is not passing power; no click means the signal is still not arriving.
  5. If there is no click, disconnect the hose at the box, let it relieve, and reconnect it to clear any trapped air.
  6. If the hose and button check out and the relay never clicks, the box is the suspect; the control box power light and replacement guide shows what the team asks for.

When to Open a Ticket

Contact your Ella dealer or the team at (800) 480-6850, or open a ticket at ellasbubbles.com/support, with your serial number, a photo of the control box showing the hose connections, and a note on whether the relay clicks and whether the purge still runs. If the hose and button are sound, the control box is a warranty part and the team confirms it from your photos.

Common Questions

Why does the air button work intermittently?
A hose that is only partly on its nipple, or a lock nut that has loosened at the button, sends a signal some presses and not others. Reseat both ends firmly and the intermittent behavior usually disappears; touchpad and push control troubleshooting covers the remaining cases.
Does the purge running mean my blower is fine?
Yes. The purge cycle is the control box running the blower on its own about 20 minutes after the air pump is turned off, for about two minutes, so if it fires, the blower and its power feed are working and the problem is upstream at the button, hose or box input.
Why do the blowers seem slow or the jets sputter?
Check which speed step you are in first, since the third press is the low setting. If the air still feels weak at high, make sure every air jet is under water and note it for the team, who confirm blower health from your description and photos.
Is the air system the same as the water jets?
No. The air massage is a separate three speed blower pushing air through many small jets, while the hydro massage is a water pump. Each has its own button, hose and relay, which is why one can stop while the other keeps working; hydro massage versus air massage controls explains the two.
