Installing the Transfer Family, Part 2: Drains, Faucet, Electrical, Grab Bar, the Extension Kit Table, Door Check and Walls

This page is the second half of the installation sequence for the Ella Transfer family: the Transfer26, Transfer30, Transfer32, Transfer60 and TransferXXL. It follows the Transfer family owner's manual (28 pages, dated 6/15/23), with drain, faucet, panel and jet details confirmed against the Transfer30 and TransferXXL spec sheets (dated 05/07/26) and the family brochure. It starts from a tub that is level and water tested and runs through the drain, faucets, electrical, grab bar, extension kit, door check and wall finish.

Dual 2 Inch T-Type Drain, Four Ports, Y Fitting

The Transfer30 spec sheet lists two 2" 4-port PVC drains with 2 end caps, 2 overflows and 2 stainless steel operated openers with extended handles. The pair presents four 2" ports so the line can leave in either direction. Connect all four for the fastest drainage, or connect two and cap the others. Join the outlets with a Y fitting rather than a T, and confirm the house drain flows properly first, because dual drains cannot fix a slow house line. Drain-side planning is in drain configurations and the house drain.

Below-Floor Recess Option

The leveling legs let the tub sit lower, but the apron, end panel and drain then meet the floor. To recess, cut access in the subfloor for the drain and trim the bottom of the apron and/or end panel, using masking tape and appropriate cutting tools to protect the acrylic. The manual states that when this custom installation is done, the warranty will not cover the damaged or altered parts. Details are in lowering the tub and recessed installations.

Faucets and Supply Lines

The Transfer30 and TransferXXL spec sheets list the 5-piece faucet at up to 18 GPM at 60 PSI under ideal in-home plumbing, with two 5' 3/4" supply lines and a pull-out hand shower on a 5' braided hose; the Transfer26 sheet lists a 2-piece faucet at up to 16 GPM at 60 PSI. Your order confirmation shows which faucet shipped. Supply lines connect to shut-off valves, which are not included.

  • 2-piece fast-fill faucet: lift the lever for on, left for hot and right for cold, diverter button under the spout for the hand shower, lever down for off.
  • 5-piece fast-fill faucet: red hot handle and blue cold handle; middle diverter lever toward OFF plus the faucet lever pushed down sends water to the pull-out hand shower. The hand shower dial has 5 flow settings.

Deck mounting is covered in fast-fill faucet installation. Do not wall-mount the hand shower without an extension hose with barrel protection.

Electrical Lines by Package

The Transfer spec sheets read "Dedicated GFCI protected electrical line(s) required, 115/120V 60Hz." How many lines you need depends on the therapy package on your order, because the jet system is package-defined on these tubs. With the Hydro + Air package the tub has 17 air jets (11 seat, including 2 bidet jets, and 6 foot) plus 11 hydro jets (5 back, 6 foot), driven by an air pump and a hydro pump. With the Hydro Massage or Hydro + Independent Foot Massage package, the spec sheet lists 22 hydro jets (16 seat, 6 foot), and the foot massage package uses two hydro pumps. Line counts per package are in electrical requirements by model. If the GFCI will not reset, turn the power off until the fault is found. Do not insulate around the tub equipment, and provide code-compliant service access.

Deck-Mount Grab Bar Washers

The kit holds a chrome grab bar (1), escutcheons (2), rubber washers (4), metal washers (2) and bolts (2). The manual's capitalized warning says the washers, and especially the large metal washer under the shell, must be installed or the acrylic shell can crack and the warranty is void.

  1. Place a metal washer on the bolt, followed by a rubber washer.
  2. Feed the bolt up through the tub shell.
  3. Add a rubber washer over the bolt, then the escutcheon.
  4. Thread the bolt loosely into the grab bar; repeat for the second bolt.
  5. Tighten both bolts with the supplied Allen wrench.

In the manual's words, "Under no circumstances install the grab bar without the large metal washer underneath the tub shell."

Extension Kit Table: Sizes by Model, No Kit Listed for Transfer60

The manual's reversible extension kit table lists four models; the Transfer60 does not appear in it. The spec sheets add the panel width: an 8" extension panel on the Transfer30 and Transfer32 and a 5" panel on the TransferXXL.

ModelSize in the kit table
Transfer-2652" L x 26" W
Transfer-3052" L x 30" W
Transfer-3252" L x 32" W
Transfer-XXL55" L x 36" W

1" x 1/8" bolts7
1" x 1/4" bolts2
1/2" nuts2
3/8" nuts7
Medium washers4
Small washers14
  1. Install the extension support brackets from the kit.
  2. Clamp the extension panel to the tub shell, lining up the top and front facade.
  3. Pre-drill holes about 3/8" wider than the mounting screws to allow final adjustment.
  4. Mount the extension with the screws, washers and bolts.
  5. Apply silicone or white caulking as needed.

If you own a Transfer60 and need to fill an alcove, ask your Ella dealer or the team at (800) 480-6850 what is available. All models are summarized in extension panels and filler kits by model.

Door Check: 2-Latch Handle Orientation and First Fill

The Transfer door is plastic composite and tempered glass with a 2-latch gear and shaft mechanism. Close the door and confirm it seats evenly all the way around the L; a gap means returning to the leveling legs. Work the handle through its full travel and confirm both latches engage; if the pins or striker plate need attention, see Transfer door pins and striker plate. Then fill the tub, let it stand, and run the pumps while watching every union, jet and drain fitting. Never fill above the center of the drain handle, and never open the door until the tub is completely drained.

Wall Finishing

Before the tub is pushed to the wall, glue a tile flange strip to the tub edge with 100% silicone. Any thin 1/8" or 3/16" rustproof, waterproof material works, such as acrylic, thin stainless steel or a fiberglass strip, about 5" tall and overlapping the edge by 2". Tile or wall panel then overlaps the flange and the flat deck, with silicone-based caulking on every joint; the method is illustrated in tile flange and wall finishing. Finish by having the installer complete and sign the two-page Warranty Activation Form at the back of the manual, then follow activate your warranty.

Common Questions

How many jets does my Transfer tub have?
It depends on the therapy package on your order. With Hydro + Air, the spec sheet lists 17 air jets (11 seat, including 2 bidet jets, and 6 foot) plus 11 hydro jets (5 back, 6 foot). With Hydro Massage or Hydro + Independent Foot Massage, it lists 22 hydro jets (16 seat, 6 foot). Check your order confirmation if you are unsure which package you have.
Is there an extension kit for the Transfer60?
The manual's kit table lists the Transfer26, Transfer30, Transfer32 and TransferXXL only. If you need to fill an alcove around a Transfer60, ask your Ella dealer or the team at (800) 480-6850 what is available for your order.
How wide is the extension panel that ships with a Transfer tub?
The spec sheets list an 8" extension panel on the Transfer30 and Transfer32 and a 5" panel on the TransferXXL, along with one reversible end panel.
What is different about the Transfer door latch?
The Transfer family uses a 2-latch gear and shaft mechanism, while the U-shape outward family uses 3 latches. Confirm both latches engage and the door seats evenly along the L before the first fill.
