Yes. The LayDown60, the 30 by 60 inch lay-down tub, comes standard with one tempered glass door in a brushed finish aluminum frame, centered on the side of the tub, and it swings inward only. It is a single panel, not two halves that part in the middle, and the same inward swing glass door is standard on the 32 by 72 LayDown72. How the seatless layout lets you recline is explained in How Does the Ella LayDown Walk-In Tub Let You Recline?; this page covers the door itself, the figures printed for it, and what it means if you want a 30 by 60 soaking tub with a swing-in door.
One Centered Glass Door, Not a Split Door
People picturing a door that opens in the middle usually have a bifold shower door in mind. The LayDown door is different. It is one tempered glass panel hinged at one side of the opening, sitting in a brushed aluminum frame with a chrome locking handle, and it swings into the tub toward the drain end. There is no second panel and no center seam. The hinge orientation on the 30 by 60 is fixed, so the door is not reversible; what you choose at order time is the drain position, left or right, and the door sits where the shell places it.
Every Ella tub is built with a door, and that includes the LayDown models, so a doorless 30 by 60 soaker is not offered. If you want a tub to lie down in while still stepping in through a low side door, the LayDown is the closest Ella option to a conventional soaking tub, as Can I Order an Ella Walk-In Tub Without a Door? explains.
The Door Figures from the LayDown60 Spec Sheet
- Door opening 19 5/8 inches wide, with a 16 1/2 inch glass panel.
- Door swing arc of 115 degrees, with a 20 1/4 inch clearance marked on the drawing for the swing.
- Tempered glass inward swing door with a brushed finish aluminum frame.
- Actual tub size 60 inches long, 30 inches wide and 21 inches high, with an interior floor of 46 inches long by 20 inches wide.
- Shipping size 63 inches long, 33 inches wide and 29 inches high, net weight 160 pounds, shipping weight 220 pounds.
Because the door swings into the tub, no floor clearance is needed in front of it, which is what makes the LayDown workable in a bathroom where an outward door would hit the toilet or the vanity. The 21 inch height is the number to check against any window, shelf or fixture near the planned tub location, and the shipping crate is the figure to check against your doorways and hallway. The LayDown72 shares the 115 degree arc and the 19 5/8 inch opening, and its own page, What is the Ella LayDown72 32x72 lay-down walk-in tub?, covers the larger size for bathers over six feet tall.
How You Use an Inward Swing Door on a Lay-Down Tub
- Swing the door in and step over the low threshold while standing.
- Close the door behind you while you are still standing, then rotate the handle fully to lock it.
- Settle down onto the flat textured floor and fill the tub. Both LayDown sizes have a 15 inch soaking depth.
- When you are done, drain the tub completely before opening the door. An inward swing door cannot be opened against a tub full of water, which is by design.
- Between baths, leave the door open slightly so the gasket is not compressed unnecessarily, which extends its flexibility and life.
The door seal maintenance video on this page is a general Ella video for inward and outward swing doors, and the routine applies here: keep the seal and the door frame clean with a common household cleaner, since residue or debris left in the seal or frame can lead to leaks. If a seal ever becomes loose, it is secured with a thin bead of silicone in the gasket channel, allowed to set up for 20 minutes before the gasket goes back in, with 24 hours to dry.
Soaking or Jets in the 30 by 60 LayDown
The LayDown60 is offered as a soaking tub with no jets as well as with three therapy options: air massage with a 3-speed pump, 20 jets and auto purge; hydro massage with an intensity dial, in-line water heater and ozone sterilization; and microbubble therapy with an air pressure pump and pressure tank. The one owner's manual covers both sizes and both the soaking and jetted versions, and it states plainly that the therapy pages do not apply to soaking tubs; Your LayDown Owner's Manual, Section by Section (30x60 and 32x72) maps those pages. So a 60 by 30 soaking tub with a swing-in door is exactly what a Soaking LayDown60 is.
Two things to plan around. First, no faucet is included: the LayDown60 has no faucet option at all and needs a pre-existing or new customer-supplied faucet, typically wall mounted, while the LayDown72 is faucet ready with optional Ella deck-mount sets. Second, the tub empties through a single 2 inch brass drain with overflow. If you are weighing the other 30 by 60 inward swing tub, the Zen60, note that it is a seated tub built only as a hydro tub and cannot be ordered as a soaker, so for a 30 by 60 soaker with an inward door the LayDown60 is the model. Send the drain hand you want with the model name to your Ella dealer or the team at (800) 480-6850 and they will confirm the exact configuration.
Planning the Fit
Measure the length of the wall or alcove where the tub will go and the depth from the back wall to the open edge of the space, then compare both to the 60 inch length and 30 inch width. The two LayDown sizes are compared in Laid-Down Walk-In Tub Dimensions and Fit. The 30 by 60 size is the one for a standard 60 inch opening, and a taller bather who wants to stretch out looks at the 32 by 72. The LayDown has no seat and no footwell, so the entire 46 by 20 inch floor is bathing space, and the straight sidewalls keep that space wide. Confirm the size and the drain side with your installer before you order, since the door location follows the shell and is not changed afterward.
