How many dedicated circuits does a fully loaded single-seat walk-in tub need?

A fully loaded single-seat Ella walk-in tub, meaning air massage, seat hydro massage, independent foot hydro massage, microbubble and the heated seat and back all on one tub, needs two dedicated 20 amp, 120 volt GFCI protected circuits on the Transfer60, TransferXXL and Ultimate, because that is what the published schematic for that package prints. The two exceptions at the top of the line are the ShaK and the Big4One with the digital full package, which are listed at three dedicated lines. How Many GFCI Circuits Does My Walk-In Tub Need? gives the counting rule for the whole lineup, and this page works through what a fully loaded tub actually plugs in, why the count stops at two on most single-seat tubs, and what your licensed electrician needs before rough-in.

What Fully Loaded Means on a Single-Seat Tub

Every Ella walk-in tub is built with a therapy package, and the package, not the model name, sets the electrical count. What Is a Therapy Package on a Walk-In Tub? explains that the shell stays the same and only the equipment underneath changes. The fullest single-seat package is the one Ella publishes as Air + Hydro + Hydro Foot Therapeutic Massage + Microbubble Therapy + Heated Seat & Back. The full push-control package schematic for that stack carries the revision date 08-01-26 and lists ten numbered components:

  • Air massage system with a variable speed pump and Auto Purge, started from an on/off push button.
  • Seat hydro massage system with its own hydro pump and intensity control.
  • Foot hydro massage system with a second hydro pump and its own intensity control.
  • Microbubble therapy system, marked optional, with a microbubble pump and pressure vessel on its own push control.
  • LED chromatherapy light.
  • In-line water heater.
  • Master control box, the electronic component controller.
  • Ozone generator.
  • Surface heater pads for the seat and back.
  • Surface key pad, labeled Heat Keypad on the diagram.

The sheet prints Available On: Transfer60, XXL, Ultimate, and the XXL entry is the TransferXXL. Our knowledge system's filed answer for this configuration states that the schematic prints two wall outlets, each GFCI protected, on a dedicated line, 20 amp, 120 volts, and that this holds even with every therapy switched on. The second video on this page is Ella's tour of the Ultimate as the fully loaded tub. It shows the independent foot massage with its own intensity dial and separate pump, the hydro massage with in-line heater and intensity dial, and the three speed air massage with Auto Purge, so you can see the equipment those two lines feed.

Line Counts by Package, from the Published List

Because the count follows the package, the fastest way to answer the question for your own order is to find your package in the published list. What Is a Dedicated Circuit for a Walk-In Tub? defines a dedicated line as one that serves only the tub and is shared with no other appliance, light or outlet, and prints the counts in the table below.

PackageDedicated 20 amp, 120 volt GFCI linesWhat it means for your tub
Hydro only1One pump and the in-line heater run on the single line
Air only or microbubble only (LayDown)1One therapy at a time, one cord
Single-seat Air + Hydro1Two pumps still run on one dedicated line
Hydro + Microbubble2The microbubble pump brings the second cord
Air + Hydro + Hydro Foot, including single-seat variants that add microbubble or a heated seat2The fully loaded Transfer60, TransferXXL and Ultimate sit here
ShaK and Big4One digital Air + Hydro + Hydro Foot + Micro3The only single-seat diagram that shows three wall outlets
Two-seat full package3Two seats of equipment need the third line

Read down the table and the pattern is clear. Adding a second hydro pump for the feet, a microbubble pump or the heated seat moves a single-seat tub from one line to two, but on the Transfer60, TransferXXL and Ultimate every therapy together still stops at two. The jump to three happens only on the ShaK and Big4One, which run the digital controller package, and on the two-seat tubs. So if your fully loaded tub is one of the three push-control models, plan two lines, and if it is a ShaK or Big4One, plan three. What electrical circuits does the Ella ShaK need for all four therapies? walks through the ShaK's count and the pumps behind it, which the current spec sheet lists as a 9A 900W seat hydro pump, a 7A 900W foot and calf pump, a 4.5A 500W three-speed air pump, a 6A 650W in-line heater and an optional 7.3A microbubble pump. Those published amp values show why the biggest package cannot ride on a single circuit, and the spec sheet notes that pump amp values may change based on availability, so the team confirms them for each order.

What Every Line Must Have

The count is only part of the specification. Each line a fully loaded tub needs must meet the same published requirements, and the first video on this page shows them in practice: Ella labels every electrical line at the production facility, the contractor plugs each cord into its own dedicated GFCI protected outlet, and the tub cannot share a circuit with any other appliance.

  • 20 amp, 120 volt. Every Ella tub runs on 115/120V, 60 Hz household power, and 20 amp is the published standard for each line. The Flow is the one model specified at 15A, and a soaking tub whose only electrical item is the heated seat needs a 15A/120V line, but neither case applies to a fully loaded tub. A 240V version is not a published option.
  • GFCI protection on each line, at the breaker or at the receptacle. One or the other is sufficient, and doubling up is not needed.
  • Dedicated to the tub. Two labeled cords on one circuit will trip the breaker as soon as the second pump starts, which is the most common wiring mistake on a two-line tub.
  • Plug-in, never hardwired. Each pump, heater and control module ends in a standard three-prong plug on a labeled cord, and on a two-line tub the stickers read Line 1 20 Amp and Line 2 20 Amp. Some master control boxes carry a 20 amp plug with one blade turned sideways, which needs a 20 amp receptacle.
  • No extension cords, and other appliances kept at least 3 feet from the tub.
  • Outlets under the seat area, inside or directly behind the equipment compartment, so the cords reach without strain. Leave the compartment uninsulated and reachable so the outlets and the blue control box can be serviced later.

Before Your Electrician Starts

  1. Confirm the package on your order. The count follows the package, and the schematic that ships with the tub names the package and its circuits.
  2. Ask for the electrical diagram for your model. The team can email it so your electrician has the line count and outlet location before rough-in.
  3. Count the labeled cords when the tub arrives and match each one to its own outlet.
  4. Have a licensed electrician run the lines. Ella ships the tub plug-in ready and gives free technical support to your installer, but does not perform electrical work.

Your model's specification sheet prints the exact count for the configuration you order, and your Ella dealer or the team at (800) 480-6850 can confirm it before your electrician and plumber begin. If you open a ticket at ellasbubbles.com/support, have your therapy package name, the number of cords on the tub and the labels printed on them, a photo of the outlets, and your model and serial number ready.

Common Questions

Does a fully loaded Ultimate need three dedicated circuits?
No. The published schematic for Air + Hydro + Hydro Foot + Microbubble + Heated Seat and Back on the Transfer60, TransferXXL and Ultimate prints two wall outlets, each on its own dedicated 20 amp, 120 volt GFCI protected line. Three lines are listed only for the ShaK, the Big4One digital full package and the two-seat full package.
Can two labeled cords share one 20 amp GFCI circuit?
No. Each labeled cord needs its own dedicated circuit that serves nothing else. Two cords on one circuit trip the breaker as soon as the second pump starts.
Does the heated seat add a third dedicated line on a single-seat tub?
No. The published list places single-seat variants that add a heated seat at two lines, the same as Air + Hydro + Hydro Foot. A soaking tub whose only electrical item is the heated seat needs one 15A/120V line.
Where should the GFCI protection be installed for the tub?
Your electrician can put it at the breaker or at the receptacle. One or the other is sufficient, so there is no need to use both. Every line to the tub must be GFCI protected.
Can my electrician hardwire the tub instead of using outlets?
Ella tubs are plug-in, never hardwired. Every pump, heater and control module ends in a standard three-prong plug on a labeled cord, and each cord goes into its own dedicated GFCI protected outlet placed inside or directly behind the equipment compartment.
Does a fully loaded walk-in tub need a 240 volt line?
No. Every Ella model runs on 115/120V, 60 Hz household power, and a 240V version is not a published option. The fully loaded single-seat tub uses two 20 amp, 120 volt dedicated lines.
