If water sprays out of the tub when you use the hand shower, the reason is usually simple: a walk-in tub is open on top, so a hand shower aimed toward the room, or jets running above the waterline, sends spray onto the bathroom floor. The first thing to check is where the spray is pointed and whether a splash guard is fitted. Ella's published splash guards are the 4 fold glass screen for seated tubs and the LayDown screen for the LayDown tubs, and both keep water in only when the bottom gasket brushes the tub deck.

Likely Causes

• No screen fitted, so a seated or standing shower has nothing to stop the spray
• A 4 fold screen sitting too high, out of level, or with its gasket facing outward
• The screen mounted on the extension panel side instead of the wall side
• Jets switched on before the water covers them, which sends water well out of the tub

What to Check, in Order

1. Keep the hand shower below deck height and aimed toward the tub wall. Lifting it to a wall bracket without the leak elimination kit sends water behind the tub; see hand shower hoses, diverters and the wall mount leak kit.
2. Fill until the water is above every jet before switching on any therapy. Jets above the waterline spray out of the tub, and a pump run without water above the jets is damaged. Fill levels are in how much water before turning on the jets.
3. If you have a 4 fold screen, confirm it is on the wall side away from any extension panel, the wall channel is level, and the rubber gasket is angled inward toward the tub. The gasket should brush the deck lightly and evenly: too high leaks, too low damages the gasket. A thin bead of silicone between channel and wall finishes the seal. 4. If the screen could not be installed, note that the 4 fold needs a side wall next to the deck, so the tub must sit in a corner or alcove. A 52 inch tub with an extension panel in a 60 inch alcove uses the 32 inch 3 fold configuration.
