Every Ella walk-in tub has a textured, slip-resistant floor, a low step-in threshold and deck or wall-mounted grab bars, so the real choice is which door style gives you the easiest entry. Most models also have a seat height of 17 inches, similar to a standard chair, as explained in the ADA and accessibility answers. The sections below list the features that come on every model and then group the current tubs by how the door opens.

Safety Features Built into Every Model

  • Low step-in thresholds and textured, slip-resistant floors on all walk-in models.
  • Seat height of 17 inches on most models. The seat is molded and not adjustable.
  • Deck and wall-mounted grab bars placed for entry and exit. Most seated tubs include one or two deck-mount bars, and more can be added to the surrounding walls.
  • Fast-fill faucets with an extendable hand shower, and a 2-piece faucet cartridge certified with an ADA lever.
  • Optional heated seat and backrest, plus easy-touch or digital controls.

Easy Entry by Door Style

Stainless steel inward-swing door. The Elite, Petite, Royal, Deluxe and Ultimate use a brushed stainless door that opens inward toward the seat and is held shut by the water once the tub fills. The Ultra uses the same inward design in a brushed aluminum frame with frosted glass, and the Companion and Escape two-seat tubs use an inward stainless door as well. You hold the grab bar, step over the low threshold, close the door while standing, then sit and fill. The door is removable for cleaning. Acrylic S-shape inward door. The Standard and the Flow use an acrylic inward S-shape door, and the Zen and Zen60 use the same S-shape door platform.

Outward-swing U-shape door. The Capri, Monaco, Front Entry, Mobile, Lounger, Shak and Big4One have an outward-swinging door of PVC composite and tempered glass with a 3-latch gear and shaft mechanism. The Tub4Two two-seater uses the same outward U-shape door. An outward door means nothing to step around inside the tub.

Outward L-shape door for wheelchair users. The Transfer26, Transfer30, Transfer32, Transfer60 and TransferXXL have an extra-wide L-shaped door that swings outward a full 172 degrees and is designed to fit over a toilet, so a seated side transfer from a wheelchair is natural. Every Transfer model has a low threshold, a textured floor, deck and wall-mounted grab bars and a soft-grip door handle. The Transfer family comparison lists the sizes.

Older S-Class Tubs

If you own a legacy S-Class 3052, 3060 or 3655, the same safety basics apply: a textured floor, wall and deck grab bars, a built-in towel rack and a chrome stainless door latch. Common Questions

Do all Ella walk-in tubs have a textured floor?
Yes. Low step-in thresholds and textured, slip-resistant floors are built into all Ella walk-in models, including the seated tubs, the two-seat tubs and the Transfer family. You do not need to select them as an option.
How many grab bars come with a walk-in tub?
Most seated tubs include one or two deck-mount grab bars, and additional bars can be added to the surrounding walls. The Transfer models come with deck and wall-mounted grab bars plus a soft-grip door handle.
Which walk-in tub is easiest to enter from a wheelchair?
The Transfer family is built for seated transfers. Its L-shaped door swings outward 172 degrees and is designed to fit over a toilet, so a bather can slide sideways from a wheelchair onto the seat.
Is an inward or outward door easier to step through?
Both use the same low threshold. An inward door on the Elite, Petite, Royal, Deluxe, Ultimate and Ultra is closed while standing and then sealed by the water. An outward U-shape door on the Capri, Monaco, Front Entry, Mobile, Lounger, Shak, Big4One and Tub4Two leaves the whole interior open when you step in.
Are Ella walk-in tubs certified as ADA compliant?
No product is, because the ADA regulates buildings rather than products and no certification exists. Ella tubs include many ADA-compatible elements such as the 17 inch seat height, low thresholds, grab bars, textured floors and ADA lever faucet handles.
