Who can install a walk-in tub with built-in seating and grab bars?

Any licensed, experienced local contractor can install an Ella walk-in tub, and most installations use a plumber for the water and drain connections and an electrician for the pump, heater and controls. Ella's Bubbles manufactures the tub but does not perform installations and does not send technicians, so the seat, the door and the grab bars that come with the tub are all set up by the installer you hire. The built-in seat and the grab bar are two of the seven practical differences between a walk-in tub and a regular bathtub, and they change what your installer needs to plan for.

Who Does the Work

Ella manufactures and sells walk-in tubs but never performs or charges for installation. The work is done by a licensed contractor you choose in your area. Because the tub arrives fully assembled and tested, the job is not building a tub but connecting one: setting and leveling it, hooking up the supply and drain, wiring any pump or heater, and mounting the loose hardware. You do not need an installer certified by Ella. Any licensed installer is fine, and the choice is yours.

What Ella provides instead of a crew is support. Technical support is free for the life of the tub and is available by phone, email and live video, with the manuals and installation documents your contractor needs. The cost of the labor is set by the contractor, not by Ella, so get that figure from the installer directly.

The Trades a Seated Tub with Jets Usually Needs

• A licensed plumber for the fast-fill faucet, the supply lines and the gravity drains. Most Ella models use dual 2 inch drains, and because the door is part of the tub wall, the drain connections have to be right before the tub is ever filled.
• A licensed electrician if the tub has a hydro pump, an air pump, an in-line heater or a heated seat. A regular bathtub rarely needs an electrician. A walk-in tub with therapy equipment does, and that is one of the practical differences between the two.
• A general contractor, or the same plumber, for setting the tub in the alcove, leveling it on its frame and finishing the walls around the deck.

Your contractor is also the person who signs your warranty activation. The activation form is completed and signed by both the customer and the installer and returned to Ella's Bubbles, so plan on having the installer fill in their portion before they leave the job.

What Built-In Seating Means for the Installer

The seat on an Ella walk-in tub is molded into the shell at chair height, so there is nothing to assemble or attach. Seats are sized by model, from 19 inches on the Petite to 29 inches on the TransferXXL. Because the seat is part of the acrylic shell, the important installation rule is about handling rather than fitting. The tub is lifted and carried by the tubular stainless steel frame beneath the shell, never by the grab bars, the faucet, the door or the deck edge. Ella asks every installer to lift the tub by the frame, never by the grab bars, because prying on a bar can loosen its mounting, crack the acrylic around the mounting holes or bend the bar itself. Have enough helpers for the weight of your model, remove loose accessories from inside the tub before the carry, and set the tub down on its frame and level it before any plumbing is connected.

What Grab Bars Mean for the Installer

Nearly every Ella model includes a grab bar as standard equipment, and the bars arrive two ways. Interior bars have their holes drilled at the factory before the tub ships. The deck-mount bar ships loose in its own kit and is bolted through the deck on site by your installer, following one rule that protects the shell and the warranty: the large metal washer must go under the shell, because installing the bar without it can crack the acrylic and voids the warranty. Per the current spec sheets, the Elite, Royal, Deluxe, Ultimate, Capri and all Transfer models include both a deck-mount and a wall-mount bar, the Petite and Companion include a deck-mount bar only, the Standard and Zen list a U-shape deck and wall-mount bar, the Ultra, Lounger, Big4One, ShaK, Escape and Big4Two list a wall-mounted bar, and the Tub4Two and LayDown tubs ship without grab bars. Included bars are chrome only.

Extra bars belong on the walls, never drilled into the tub. Ella's guidance follows ADA practice: horizontal wall bars 33 to 36 inches above the tub floor plus a vertical bar near the door, every one fastened into studs or solid in-wall backing that a licensed contractor has confirmed. How the Installer Affects Your Warranty

Ella's warranty is a lifetime parts warranty. Labor, installation, removal and the plumbing or electrical connections are never covered, and the labor itself is warranted by the independent contractor who did the work. That is why the choice of installer matters. Improper or negligent installation, and modifications by anyone other than Ella's Bubbles, are excluded from coverage, and Ella is not bound by warranty promises made by dealers, retailers or contractors. If a part fails later, Ella ships the replacement under the warranty and a local licensed plumber or electrician does the labor, with free technical support available to guide them. Before installation day, inspect the tub visually and operationally as soon as it arrives and report any freight damage within 48 hours of receipt. Keep all packaging material until you are sure a claim is not needed. Give your contractor the manual and the support number, and confirm that the installer will mount the deck-mount bar with its metal washers, level the tub on its frame before connecting anything, and sign the activation form.
