Which Ella Walk-In Tubs Are Under 36 Inches Tall?

Four seated Ella walk-in tubs stand under 36 inches tall: the Elite, Petite and Royal at 35 inches, and the Ultimate 30x60 at 35 3/4 inches. The LayDown 30 by 60 is much lower at 21 inches, but it is a reclining tub with no seat. Tub Heights Against a 36 Inch Limit

Height here means the outside wall of the tub, from the floor to the top of the deck, which is the height figure printed on each model's spec sheet or technical drawing. The table sorts the models whose heights are published, shortest first. Where a width, length or seat figure is not printed in the material behind this page, the cell says not listed rather than guessing.

What the table means: if your limit is a 36 inch window sill, the choice is among the three 35 inch tubs and the Ultimate, and even those need a few extra inches above the deck on any wall side for the wall finish, so measure to the bottom of the trim before deciding. The Flow misses by half an inch. The Standard, Zen and Zen60 at 37 1/2 inches, the Standard60 at 38 inches, the Deluxe at 39 inches and the outward-swing door family at about 40 inches are all over the line. The Monaco Under a 36 Inch Window Sill

The Monaco's technical drawing gives an overall height of 39 1/4 inches. The deck is the highest structural point of the tub, so that is the figure to compare with your window. A 36 inch sill sits below the Monaco's deck, so this is not a straightforward fit: a standard installation wants the sill above the deck. Send your sill height and a photo to your installer before ordering so the window can be worked into the plan, and ask your Ella dealer or the team at (800) 480-6850 to go through the measurements with you. The Monaco also needs 21 inches of clearance in front of it for the outward-swing door. The Monaco video shows the actual external dimensions of the tub, including that door clearance, along with its 23 inch wide seat, 16 inch seat length, 26 inch shoulder width and 42 inch interior length. If staying under the sill matters more than the Monaco's outward door and wider seat, the Elite, Petite and Royal at 35 inches and the Ultimate 30x60 at 35 3/4 inches are the seated tubs that clear it.

Why the Short Tubs Are Short

The difference is mostly the seat. The Deluxe, the outward-swing U-door family, the Transfer family, the Ultra and the two-seat tubs carry a seat about 17 inches high, in the range used for accessible seating, which is easier to rise from and pairs with a low step-in. The 35 inch Elite, Petite and Royal carry a lower seat, and a lower seat means a shorter tub overall. Shorter bathers often prefer the lower seat, and taller bathers usually prefer the higher one. Tub height is not something that can be special-ordered in either direction, so a 39 inch tub cannot be built at 35 inches, and nothing with a seat is 32 inches or under. The LayDown When the Limit Is Lower Still

Under 24 inches there is one family: the LayDown. The 30 by 60 stands 21 inches to the deck edge, with an actual size of 60 inches long by 30 inches wide and 21 inches high. Low as it is, it still soaks 15 inches deep, compared with a standard tub depth of 11 inches, because you recline in it rather than sit. The LayDown video shows the 3060 with its interior soaking length of 53 inches and 25 1/2 inches of width, the straight and narrow sidewalls that give more interior room than a curved-wall tub, the tempered glass door in a stainless steel frame and the low threshold. It is the answer when a window or a vanity rules out every seated tub.

Measuring the Limit Before You Choose

1. Measure from the finished floor to the bottom of the window trim, not the glass. The trim is what the tub deck and the wall finish behind it must clear.
2. Measure from the finished floor to the underside of any countertop, cabinet or shelf that overhangs the tub space.
3. Open the spec sheet for the model under Download Specifications on its product page and read the actual height. The size in a model name is nominal: the Petite is sold as a 28 inch tub and measures 27.5 inches wide.
4. Allow a few extra inches above the deck on any wall side for the wall finish.
5. Check length and door side as well.
