The drain on the Ella Pet Spa is in the same location on every unit, whether you order a left-hinge or right-hinge door. Only the door swing changes with the hinge side. The 2-inch drain outlet sits between the bottom of the tub and the subfloor, so the drain line runs beneath the unit rather than out the back or side. Before your plumber cores concrete or cuts a floor, ask the support team for the drain location drawings and the owner's manual, and plan the rough-in from those.

The Drain Does Not Follow the Door

This is the opposite of how an Ella walk-in tub is laid out. On a walk-in tub the drains sit on the side opposite the door, so choosing a door side also chooses the drain side, as explained in should my walk-in tub door be on the left or right side. The Pet Spa is different. Its drain placement is fixed, and the hinge side you choose only determines which way the door opens. That means you can pick the door swing that suits the groomer's working position and the room without moving the plumbing.

Clearance Under the Unit

Because the outlet is under the tub, the question that comes up on commercial installs is how much room there is between the outlet and the floor, and whether a drain line can slope properly to an existing floor drain or a new core in concrete. The support team answers that with drawings and photos showing the drain location rather than a single figure over the phone, because the answer depends on how your line is routed. Request the drawings with your hinge side stated, and have a licensed plumber lay out the slope to the drain point before the unit is delivered. Power and Water

The Pet Spa requires one dedicated 20 amp, 120 volt GFCI circuit. Have a licensed electrician run it to the planned location before delivery. If your supply lines or outlet must come from a particular wall, send the support team a marked-up sketch of the room along with your drawings request so the connections can be checked against the space. Planning the Rough-In

  1. Confirm the hinge side you are ordering, since it sets the door swing.
  2. Request the Pet Spa drain location drawings and the owner's manual from the support team.
  3. Mark the drain outlet position on the floor where the unit will sit.
  4. Have a licensed plumber verify the slope from the outlet to the floor drain or core location.
  5. Have a licensed electrician run the dedicated 20 amp GFCI circuit to the planned outlet location.
  6. Keep the drawings on site for delivery day so the installer can set the unit over the rough-in.
