Ella does not carry a deeper replacement for the standard fold-down shower seat that ships with its shower stalls. The closest alternative is a 16.5 by 16.5 inch fold-down seat, which is about 1 1/2 inches deeper than the standard seat but narrower. Ella also offers a teak fold-up seat, left-hand or right-hand folding bench seats, and two seat styles for standard bathtubs. If a seat that is both wider and deeper is essential for safety, home improvement retailers carry a wider variety of shower seats.
Seat Options Ella Offers
- Standard fold-down shower seat. This is the seat supplied with Ella shower stalls that include a seat. It folds flat against the wall when not in use.
- 16.5 by 16.5 inch fold-down seat. The next size available from Ella. It gains about 1 1/2 inches of depth over the standard seat but gives up width, so measure the bather before switching.
- Teak fold-up seat. A wood seat that folds up out of the way.
- Folding bench seat, left-hand or right-hand. This seat is ordered for a specific side of the shower, and the team confirms it is rated for 600 pounds.
- Bathtub seats for standard tubs. A folded bathtub seat lies flat against the wall when not in use, and a removable bathtub seat lifts off completely for full standing showers. Both mount securely and give bathers a stable seated option in an existing tub without replacing the tub.
Exact dimensions, weight ratings and finishes for every seat and bench are listed in the shower doors, seats and accessories spec article.
Choosing a Seat Side
Folding bench seats are ordered as left-hand or right-hand. The usual recommendation is to put the seat on the side opposite the drain, so a shower with a left drain takes a right-side seat. Confirm the choice with your installer and your Ella dealer before ordering so the correct hand is supplied.
When the Standard Seat Is Not Enough
A bather who slips off a shallow seat needs more depth, and Ella's 16.5 inch seat may not be wide enough to help. In that case a seat from another supplier can be a better fit. Whatever seat you choose, have a licensed installer mount it and confirm the wall can carry it. Mounting steps for Ella seats and benches are in the seat, bench and curtain rod installation guide.
Ordering a Replacement or an Added Seat
Replacement and add-on seats are ordered through your Ella dealer or the team at (800) 480-6850. Have your shower model number ready, and say which side the drain is on so the correct hand is supplied. Care instructions for teak seats and other accessories are in the shower and accessory care article.
